First Anita, then Charlie, and now Marianne...I've been reading that Mick has paid for her housing and nursing care over the last few years...kudos to him, if true.

Hope her end was peaceful and she did not suffer unduly.

Also used to hear he helped pay for her son Nicholas education. I wonder tho, wouldn't she have had money enough for that?

Now so long, Marianne, it's time that we began
To laugh and cry and cry and laugh about it all again.
(Leonard Cohen)

RIP Marianne, I thought you were indestructible.

She said to me, “Say it in broken English.”
I always did. Still do.

I'm sure, that the development of the Stones would have been different without Marianne & Anita! These two wonderful woman where an important puzzle-piece of our beloved Rolling Stones' legend.

All the best to her family!

In a weird way I still think of Marianne as Mick's only "real" relationship.

Strange ya write that Glimmerest .....

Years ago there was a Marianne doco ... title escapes me
But near the end she spoke of how Mick was the only man she ever really loved ...

Really tragic. They fit each other once upon a time.

Here's a link to a post I write this morning, about meeting Marianne a couple of times, for writing work, when she was in The Black Rider in 2004, and when she was making her last album of poems from Byron and Shelley an co, in 2021. A wonderful woman and artist, I can't believe she has gone, but she has, and a whole world of wonders is trailing out behind her, and soon they too will be gone.
As Williams Burroughs once wrote, nothing here now but the recordings.

Farewell Marianne Faithfull

Sad to hear of her passing. I was lucky enough to see her perform Why'd Ya Do It in NYC at the Mudd Club...I was there very late one night and it was after 2 AM and the garage door (that was the stage) just opens and there she is alone sitting on a chair several white lights on her and she belts out that incredibly angry song and the place went wild and then the steel curtain went back down....I don't think I'll ever forget it.

nice choice for a front cover tribute image... elegant, sexy, nostalgic, classy, her partly covered face graced by an innocent, non-staged smile -- she was the opposite of the femme fatale trying to be mysterious and seductive at all costs, in fact she even managed to ridicule that popular clichée (her aristocratic intelligence would not have allowed it anyway)

My weekly newsletter/memoir writing essay this week..

This week, we mourn the loss of the extraordinary Marianne Faithfull, a voice of a generation whose life and artistry left an indelible mark on the world. In her honor, I want to shine a light on her remarkable memoir, "Faithfull," which has long been one of my favorite books in the genre.

"Faithfull" is more than just a memoir; it’s a poetic journey through the complexities of life, love, and loss. As I reflect on her passing, I am reminded of the beauty and depth woven throughout her storytelling. With each turn of the page, I am transported to the vibrant yet tumultuous world of the 1960s and 1970s, where Faithfull navigated the heights of fame alongside icons like Mick Jagger, amid the shadows of addiction and self-discovery.

What makes "Faithfull" truly exceptional is its authenticity. Marianne writes with a raw honesty that invites readers into her most vulnerable moments. She does not shy away from discussing her struggles with addiction, her tumultuous relationships, and the challenges of being a woman in a male-dominated industry. This level of transparency creates a profound connection, allowing us to see her not just as a celebrity but as a real person grappling with the complexities of her experiences.

Her writing is both lyrical and evocative; it's a testament to her talent as a storyteller. Each chapter unfolds like a beautifully crafted song, rich with imagery and emotion. Whether describing the thrill of performing on stage or the pain of personal loss, Faithfull's prose resonates with a haunting beauty that lingers long after the last page is turned. I find that I can open the book to any page and instantly be immersed in the time and events she describes, feeling the weight of her experiences as if they were my own.

"Faithfull" also offers an insightful glimpse into the cultural landscape of her era. Through her eyes, we witness the shifting tides of music, art, and society, all while exploring the broader themes of resilience and redemption. It’s a powerful reminder of the strength found in vulnerability and the beauty that can emerge from our struggles.

As we honor Marianne Faithfull's legacy, I encourage you to pick up a copy of "Faithfull" and experience her incredible journey for yourself. It’s a memoir that not only captures the essence of a remarkable woman but also serves as an inspiration to all of us who seek to tell our own stories with honesty and grace.

In celebrating her life, let us also celebrate the power of storytelling and its ability to connect us across time and experience. Marianne Faithfull's voice will continue to echo in the hearts of readers, and her memoir is a gift that will endure.

Very sad news. Another piece of the Stones family is gone. Most of us never met you, or saw you in concert. Still, it feels like we where in family with you. You suffered in pain a lot in your life, still you lived long. We love you Marianne. Rest in peace.

I am not sure about what this particular day means to Stones fans. Marianne's passing is indeed sad and she was a huge part of Stones' history. What do you mean by "as if this day couldn't get any worse for Stones fans"?
Thank you.
