I don’t buy the « Mick held his pen » I buy « The Stones did not sign the tentative schedule ». Too much waste of time. But then, time is running. Mick will turn 82 in July. The UK, Germany, Switzerland and The Netherlands are the sole countries in Europe that can break even a Stones show at a pace of 1 show every 4 or 5 days. Awesome if they play there. But I don’t believe that. We have been overspoiled. But I will miss forever those damn first 30 seconds.

This makes the most sense to me. The Stones are lucky they can put the kibosh on a bad tour schedule. Other bands dont have that luxury.

Basically I agree with you, but perhaps... "Few other bands/performers have that option." may be more accurate.

eg Taylor Swift

Captain Corella

Very interesting announcement just came out. Beyonce is performing at the Tottenham stadium in June around the same time the Stones were due to and for four nights. Might be no connection but it’s weird timing. Do you think they told the Stones they wanted her instead?

Well, it's hyper speculation, but, if we're going there and you're a business person what would you do?

I don't know on person that would see The Stones that would go see Beyonce.

I'm not sure that's true, actually I'm sure it's not.

But that really isn't the point. It isn't who you'd rather see, it's who is going to make the stadium more money.

After reading through all these posts, I think the best idea is to play multiple shows in London and let everyone travel to them. It will sell out because of the many devoted fans worldwide - and its less wear and tear on the band and crew. It's a win-win for everyone. And if 10-14 is too much, 5-6 will do! But if it's not because of logistics this point is moot.

Agreed.

We now live in a world where some bands are booking venues as far as a year in advance. Big acts (i.e. Oasis, Coldplay etc). Tickets even going on sale a year in advance.

The Stones nowadays like to book only 3-4 months ahead, understandable for their age and probably insurance purposes. But this is probably not going to work that well if they want the perfect venues, schedule or logistics.

Logical route is do a residency somewhere and let people come to them rather than just hoping they can get the schedule they want next year.

They owe us nothing or course! We're in bonus time.

It's a "me too" option they've resisted so far...but time will tell.

[Maybe it just doesn't generate the kind of revenue they've come to expect whilst they still feel able to tour in their familiar and now time honoured fashion.]

For comparison, AC/DC just announced their 2025 European Tour dates: [iorr.org] .

AC/DC is the first band that will play (08 July 2025) in the new

OPEN AIR PARK DÜSSELDORF [www.openairpark-dus.de]
Capacity 80.000

This will be the right place for the STONES. Better sounding "Open air" as "echo" arenas.

Can anyone remind me why UK wasn't included in 2017 Europe tour? I know they did 2018 but just can't recall the reasoning back then - and by extension wondering if they did something similar this year whether UK would also miss out?

No venues available in UK: [X.com] , [iorr.org] .

But such an open-air area is a flat field, mostly standing only. Maybe good for those who just wanna listen to the Stones and watching them at home on DVD/BR instead.

The Stones would probably have a seated front anyway and extra stands in the back and sides. Think of Hamburg 2017 for example

Yeah, such a solution would be possible - but think of the effort and the additional costs compared to a ‘ready-to-use’ stadium.

Wow. Really nice. Let's make it a really nice August thing in 2025 or summer 2026.

Like the multiple times renamed Düsseldorf Arena (at the location of the former Rheinstadion).

maybe Mick will finish writing his autobiography he started in the 80s?

For what it’s worth. Matt Clifford wrote on Instagram „Looking forward to be meeting up with the band again soon“

So they must be doing something. If they don’t tour then that probably means studio time!

I was thinking... with all this free time... maybe Mick will finish writing his autobiography he started in the 80s? He said at the time that he might finish it when he was much older... older even than Buddy Holly..

Lol I wish

The Stones are a touring band, not a residency band. I don't see them doing a residency. I'm sure if they want to tour, they're looking for the earliest opportunity to do so. I think they are wise enough to know that at this stage in their lives you don't just say "we'll just tour next year"...

He said in 2023 that he has no interest in living in the past writing it.

100%

I think Mick enjoys visiting the different places and touring makes it accessible to locals who are unable to travel. Afterall the majority of those at stadium shows are not fans who are on forums and would go to multiple shows.

The challeneges the Stones face setting up tours are quite extensive

-Core members must be healthy
-Guaranteed money paid up front
-Insuarance sign off (including multiple doctors traveling with band)
-14 to 20 shows with very specific rest time in between (this is the big one which is very hard in Europe)
-Venue availability that coincides with above point
-All of the above has to work for everyone involved

To which you can add: tours announced quite late (relative to most similar sized events), just a few months beforehand to cut down on insurance/cancellation risk.

They don't need to meet until one month before a Tour so it must be studio time. I still think the "tour off" decision was to finish the next album.
