tomorrow to avoid either Canada, USA or Finland in the quarterfinals. Quarterfinals will be decided on January 2. Good luck to everyone!

So...quarterfinals for tomorrow:

USA -Switzerland
Czechia - Canada
Sweden - Latvia
Finland - Slovakia

Team USA, Canada, Sweden and Finland will be favorites, but...not to seldom
one of the quarterfinals will not end as predicted. So all watch out tomorrow!

My daughter's family was at Finland/USA game, and she said it might have been the best game she's ever seen. She watches a lot of hockey.

And the fans were all rooting for Finland, which was funny, she said.

Canada does not look very good (relatively speaking). That said, the real tournement starts now

As promised one surprise in the quarterfinals - Canada out. Mostly due to some bad goaltending an unnecessary foul play.
Canada was the better team - but not in the score sheet. So coming up tomorrow:

Finland - Sweden
USA - Czechia

Canada - far too many unnecessary penalties. Weird from such a good team.

Saw a segment from TSN: Four so called experts blamed the referees for the loss and accused the Czech players for faking it.

Okay, tomorrow's games: I think the Finland-Sweden game will be a close 50/50 match. Defending champions USA will be slight favorites against Czechia. So, good luck to all teams!

If you don't score with a 4 to 3 power play in overtime your opponent will... Congrats to Finland. We'll see which team will join them in the final tomorrow...

After bv's post " Sticky: Off Topic posting on IORR (nothing new here)", I don't know how "OT: 2025 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships" has survived. I mean, it doesn't appear to comprise anything "tell me", and it's probably more non-Stones related than anything ever before.

I wish to respectfully commend bv for his post. After all, a lot of entirely non-Stones OT posts have been appearing. Let's keep to the subject we know and rock to. That's what the large majority of us come here for.

Team USA looks strong. But it's a tournament and one game for the gold, so the Finns definitely have a chance to pull it off. May the best team win!

Congrats to Czechia for the well deserved bronze medal. It took 28 penalties (5 goals, 23 misses...) to claim the medals though.
The Swedish team? A disappointment. Again...

I have never seen 28 penalty shoot out before. It was a rather cautious game from both Sweden and Czechia.

Yes Martin, 5 out of 28 is a bad score. One Swedish player took 3 penalties and didn't score once. Usually, they do the same mistake: They come in at high speed, by that narrowing their own angle, and try to dribble the goalie. Only one out of 28 managed to do that successfully. It's better to come in at slow (-er) speed, do a move and shoot. At least you test the goalie by doing so.

Don't we all want to see good goaltending and the least amount of goals?

(Or is it just me, a goalie myself?)
