How would he do that? He's said he wrote it in australia, while filming "ned kelly." Tuned the guitar to open G, and put together the song. keith's never said otherwise, even when making rude comments as above.

I think Jagger is a lot better than anyone wants him to be. We just don't want him to be a guitarrist IMO. He supposed to sing and dance. But in truth he is pretty good on ABB. And anyone writing as amny songs as he has to be pretty fluent. I sim[ly ca not imagine Jagger crunching down on a solo. leaning into his axe and beding some distorted lead lines...

if that's all it takes to be called a "guitarist" then I'm one - in fact, we pretty much all are, so long as we can finger the basic 3 chords of a given stones song.

Those are Keith's riffs all the way across the board in open G tuning commencing on the 12th fret.

It's keith's style, but mick wrote it. Read the magazine excerpt posted above. I was surprised when I learned it, too.



I think "Let It Bleed" has 4 chords.

But I wouldn't say being able to strum them makes one a "very competent" guitarist either. But playing "Sway" or "Stop Breaking Down" might be another matter...

Mick can play well and has for years. Watch the extra footage of the Gimme Shelter DVD....one of my favs is Mick backstage with Ike and Tina and he gets the guitar from Ike and starts playing some killer blues.

Keith's updated his assessment of Mick's playing since that 2002 remark - he's always said good things about Mick on acoustic,
and recently he's been saying he's now got the hang of electric as well.
Mick's got a mighty sweet sense of rhythm, and he's been studying that thing for about 40 years with some spectacular masters,
so why shouldn't he be good, since he wants to be? it's not his most eloquent instrument, but [smile] he'll do.

The first solos he did are on ABB; BOMH and Streets Of Love. Good? I don't know, but they both suit the songs.

It's much more than being able to strum; it's doing so in perfect time while accenting the chords in an interesting way.
