I remember coming across a program on Antenne2 in 1982 in which, while presenting the Stones' European tour, they aired excerpts from a 1976 concert in Paris. Could this be what we're talking about in the reissue of Black and Blue?

My understanding is they cannot get an agreement with the owners for the use of the Paris 76 broadcast material.

The rumored date of the Paris footage included on the reissue is June 5.

Judging from Mick’s outfit, I don’t think any footage from this show was used in the broadcasts.

When I look at the BR title list, I think it is the French TV (A2) special “Les Rolling Stones Aux Abattoirs” (directed by Freddy Hausser).

This is also the same setlist as was shown on the Old Grey Whistle Test on 20.9.1977. (I remember the night - an old portable B/W TV) ... (Satisfaction is listed but this wasn't played (as I'm sure everyone knows), if I remember rightly this was the Outro music to OGWT that night.....

[archive.bobharris.org].

Is it the same film?....If it is, it's from several nights ... (Mick - quote - from the preceding OGWT interview - "Hence the change of costumes" ....I guess we'll have to wait and see........

The broadcast with Whispering Bob Harris is available in high quality on the 2-DVD-Set AUX ABATTOIRS Paris, June 1976. Including an interview with Mick, Ronnie and a drunken Charlie. Also on this set is the complete June 6 concert with backstage scenes. A great set, highly recommended.

I have a NM vinyl copy of this (though with fewer tracks). If folks are interested I can record and drop it in Hot Stuff. I'd happily sell the vinyl too but with Canada Post on strike that would have to wait a bit...

I have a question. Is the colored vinyl box the same as the 2-LP edition that is sold separately?

Re: Black and Blue 2025

Who decides on what outtakes are put on these Deluxe release versions. of course Mick will have a say

Does Keith hav any input ? or does he care as long as the money rolls in.

I have ordered the Deluxe version anyway but feel they as usual have missed another
opportunity to give the the real fans what they want. We know there are lots more than you disclose.

Mick stop holding out on relaesing and teasing fans with your part releases.
We womt be around forever.

We will probably have all these outtakes bootleg

I’m curious what great stuff is being left off? Hopefully the jams are cool but the ‘74-‘75 vibe of sessions for Black and Blue are really unique almost like TSMR in the 60’s.

This almost feels like the Talk is Cheap outtakes

It's probably all on Mick in regard to what is considered for bonus material (with maybe come consultation with Chris Kimsey or Glyn Johns). There's no way to think Keith does or doesn't give a damn or how much input he has - he had no clue that Mick Taylor recorded on Plundered - and even spoke in a manner that claimed he knew Taylor wasn't involved:

I'm not saying (Mick Taylor participating)'s not true. I'm simply not going to deny it or say it didn't happen.
- Keith Richards, 2010

(Mick Taylor participating i)s a rumor, babe. If he was on there, I would know. We've had no contact with Mick for a long time.
- Keith Richards, 2010

I’ve put Mick Taylor on Plundered My Soul, because he wasn’t on it. I wasn’t on it, he wasn’t on it, so obviously we were driving to the studio when that was done (laughs)... (I)t was very nice, it was just like the old days, you know, I just sat Mick down and we did it like half an hour...
- Mick Jagger, 2010

So that eliminates anything Keith has to say.

Everyone knows (or should know) not to believe anything Ronnie says. And if Charlie was alive he'd be just as mystified as anyone wondering.

Clearly Mick isn't exactly engaged/doesn't care since post-material (Scarlet, part of the SG deluxe tracks) has been released.

Again, as incredible as it may seem, KR actually did not know that Mick Taylor had overdubbed on Plundered My Soul when he said that. I have this directly from the producer. No further comment.

I don't find it incredible at all. It absolutely fits into the aspect of Jagger being the one in control. Yet Keith's usual 'harrrrghh' etc completely fits in line with what he says, which is, he has no idea even though he stated he would know.

He doesn't know shit! The guy that exclaims "It's good to be here, it's good to be anywhere" never leaves. And he clearly never knows, he's just glad to be where he is.

This happened round when Mick allegedly proof-read Life, methinks. The thought of Mick pulling his leg a wee bit with this crossed my mind.

Surely this must have been the first time Keith wasn't informed about a thing like this.

understandable, the slander Keith wrote about Mick in Life was just completely disrespectful and mannerless. We are incredibly lucky that they got on terms again after that.

There is obviously some cloud they're in - and have been in since 1963 - that is only unto them.

However, Mick "demanding" an apology from Keith in 2012... the book wasn't recalled. Maybe I forget but nothing was said about it after in regards to the Stones and the 50th tour(s).

In respect to their origin time and until 1965 an aspect of their cattiness towards each other continued - like two 10th graders never moving up, their egos were cheap shot middle skool-high skool garbage like little kids and the results were DIRTY WORK and STEEL WHEELS.

Whatever happened in early 1975 with Glyn Johns, given how he was, and his mix of the finished 1974's Fool To Cry, must've had some input on the rest of the sessions.

Here’s a question: instead of overdubs and new Jagger vocals, why not polish-up the original track and release ‘as is’ After all, these recordings - ‘new vocals’ and all - are only going to appeal to us so-called diehard’s, anyway. Personally, I’d rather they’d have left Shame Shame Shame as an unfinished instrumental.

They chose this format when they launched Exile Deluxe. It would be odd to change direction halfway through.

However, I'm afraid that at this rate, a treatment like this won't be applicable to all albums. Tattoo You Deluxe is already four years old. If you want to give IORR, Emotional Rescue a similar treatment, Mick will be 90 years old.

Regarding this Black & Blue Deluxe:

I'm going for the 2-LP version and maybe even the Zoetrope. €200 for a (in my opinion) disappointing Super Deluxe is really a step too far for me. The previously released box sets were not only better designed, but also about €80 cheaper.

So the Glyn Johns version of Fool to Cry doesn't have Wayne Perkins, correct? I don't really hear Perkins on the final version much anyway (IIRC).

Is this the Glyn version:

I think it was an interview with Howard Stern, where Mick said he chose the outtake songs for the Tattoo You Deluxe based on how much lyrics he had to write. That’s why that particular album had so many covers. The other outtakes chosen also had lyrics that were 70-90% complete, so all Mick had to do was tweak them or finish them and that was that.

I imagine the same strategy has been applied to all their Deluxe releases with the exception of Exile which seems to be the only one that Mick and Keith worked on together. I’m assuming Keith only participated because he considers that album his baby vs. the others. Keith has also gone on record (can’t remember where) saying he thinks they should just release all their outtakes “as is”. At the end of the day, he probably doesn’t think it’s worth fighting over.

I’m sure we’ll eventually get everything released in one form or another. I don’t think we’re the target audience though, it’s the younger fans they’re holding out for. The market may be shrinking for this stuff now, but after the Stones pass on, or if they have a hit biopic, I’m sure there will be an uptick in interest for the band’s music like we’ve seen for Queen, Elton John, David Bowie, Prince, etc.

Re: Black and Blue 2025

Would younger fans have much interest in "mythical" outtakes though ? I mean there aren't that many of "us" who are "really" interested or research them so...and probably one of the reasons we're "interested" is that because for years (say until 2003/napster) they were impossible to obtain easily and you only read about them in "Heart of Stone" or "Stones Sessions" and sunk money on crappy bootlegs you bought from shady characters. Now you can just stream any of them on YT, not that "exciting" anymore for a newcomer ;-)

Anyway it's nice to see Mick (and his team) show (a bit) of how they worked on SSS rather than remain "hush, hush" on what was added to the outtakes as had been the case since Exile. As well as hopefully giving us "untouched" outtakes like the jams.
