Good enough piece, but I can't get along with the subheading 'He helped shape classic songs by the Rolling Stones, the Who and the Beatles but his influence on music has been largely ignored. A new documentary aims to correct that.'

It's not been 'largely ignored' at all, he has long been celebrated in many articles and interviews, and in the book that came out years ago. It rather p*sses me off, this pretending to be the just voice righting wrongs that don't actually exist. All good for the documentary, though...

It’s not that he’s been ignored, it’s that nobody knows about him in the first place. Being ignored requires people to be aware of him. I’m a millennial and nobody I know who is a classic rock fan has any idea of who he is unless I educate them. Only real music geeks know who he is outside the generation that grew up with him.

I agree with you, TravellinMan. Seems weird to be angry about that element of the article, rather than thankful that the great man is getting some more focus.

Well, I doubt many people attending a Stones gig these days will have heard about Brian Jones or Mick Taylor. They probably know Mick and Keith, and maybe that guy Ron Woods.

Believe it. I was at one of the 2013 Los Angeles shows with Taylor. They started playing Midnight Rambler and one girl said, "That's Mick Taylor." The other girl said, "Who?"

Ridiculous that there's a complaint that Hopkins is unknown. The right people know who he is. He was not a flamboyant personality who pushed himself out there, and was gone before he could be fully appreciated in the public eye.

Was this the staples gig? Very jealous, Mick Taylor played a blinder of a gig here, if I remember right he also played on more than the 2 songs he normally was given each gig on that tour,

Anyone shining a light on Nicky Hopkins is more than welcome to in my book, im a music nerd so know about him, but a lot of my friends don’t really know much about him

Nicky Hopkins was primarily a session musician; much like all those guy’s in the ‘Wrecking Crew’, and the likes of Big Jim Sullivan and Vik Flick in the U.K. They were not in the public eye and would’ve been, largely, unknown. Heck, Jimmy Page was mightily prolific in the studio, pre-Yardbirds. If it were not for Zeppelin, he’d be a footnote. The same goes for John Paul Jones. Myself, and my fellow contributors, here, appreciate their greatness; casual-fans probably don’t.
