RIP Quincy Jones
Posted by: caschimann ()
Date: November 4, 2024 12:43

Quincy Jones died last night at the age of 91.
It's a sad story to loose him.
It's a great story what he brought to the world.
Yes of course he is the producer of Michael Jackson's Thriller the most sold record of all time with 70 million sales up today.
But when he did that Quincy Jones was already a legend in Jazz.
With 17 years old he toured with Lionel Hampton. With 20 he founded his own big band. The list of artists he produced is endless. Of course Frank Sinatra.Of course Miles Davis.Dione Warwick. Count Basie. Ray Charles. Ella. George Benson.Donna Summer. Patti Austin. The Brother Johnson. Or even Snoop. And so many, many more. Quincy won 28 (!) Grammies. 2 Oscars. First black man as President of a record label (Mercury). First black human being organizing a presidents inauguration.
I will later write something more profound.
But may be its ok for now because you all know him so well.

Quincy Jones, music titan who worked with everyone from Frank Sinatra to Michael Jackson, dies at 91 (AP News)

I wonder what the Stomes would have sounded like if he had produced an album.Keith and Charley probably would have liked working with him.

Keith Richards and Jolie Jones (Quincy's daughter) had a relationship and was Keith's traveling companion on the 72 US tour.

Quincy talked Eddie into performing the guitar solo on Beat It! Eddie didn't believe it was him on the phone originally and hung up.

He wanted to be a champion of black people but married white women including actress peggy lipton who starred in The Mod Squad. He was a drinker and beat Peggy. That makes him a piece of shot! You people should know who you praise before posting. You are all like main street media deciding what the narrative should be!

Wasn’t he still with Anita in 1972.I understand anonymous groupies on the road, but he had a public relationship with Jones during the tour?Where was Anita?

There’s nothing wrong with interracial marriage.

Rest in peace, Quincy Jones

If I were to compile a list of the 100 greatest songs, the name Quincy Jones would appear most often in the credits.

What a great middle name he had.

Quincy Delight Jones
1933-2024

Rest in the sweetest music eternally.

Anita was back at home "in the kitchen with the tombstone blues"

They would of had no say. From what I have read, Jones would override almost ever suggestion on songs. He told Steve Lukather to re do all his parts on Beat It. He didn't like the tone of the amount of distortion.
Michael Jackson wanted the violin lick in the intro removed in Don't Stop Till You Get enough. He told Michael it stays and he makes the final decision.

No he is not that type of producer. He was miles above his knowledge over any artist.

In his own words “you don’t tell me what to do”.

Can't quite decide between "The Streetbeater" or "Hikky Burr." (I believe the great Carol Kaye on bass...)

he deserves our praise and respect

people are more then the worst things they've ever done

quincy was a great man and the art he helped bring into the world will outlive us and any of the pain and harm he caused others a thousand times over

but no he wasn't always a good man because good men don't beat women

and i'm not saying this to minimize what he did or the suffering of victims of domestic abuse

but you say this on a site dedicated to celebrating and praising the rolling stones whose founder beat women too

not to mention the many black women and women of all race they've enjoyed spending the night together together with

and as someone who has a close family member who married a black man in the 60's (56th anniversay next month) and suffered awful racist abuse and ostracisation for doing so from friends, family and strangers

you should be ashamed of yourself

his marrying white women has absolutely nothing at all to do with his supporting black people

Hard to believe me thinks.

I got deep in QJ's material as a young man in the 90s. Sounds...And Stuff Like That!, The Dude, Brothers Johnson, Off The Wall

So funky, so much attention to detail, such joyous music.

Thank you Quincy Jones, RIP

Myself, I didn't appreciate his dimensia comments about Elvis being a racist. So @#$%& ridiculous. Him and his buddy Ray Charles were always ragging on Elvis. Elvis brought attention to the fool and helped knock down the walls of racism.

So anyway, I lost respect for both of them with that nonsense talk about Elvis.

the only reference to elvis that i can find that ray charles ever made was in this 1994 interview with bob costas

and he doesn't at all call elvis a racist he's just doesn't seem to personally think he was that great and that he largly succeded because he was performing black music as a white man and that made the music more pallitable to white audience then a black man performing it at the time

and he thinks that black artists performed it better in his opinion

of course ray charles was blind and couldn't see what elvis looked like and how great he was physically onstage which is probably worth considering when we think about why he felt the way he did about him

as for quincy jones he made that comment in his 90's

people say weird things in there 90's

for what it's worth i don't agree with either man (ray maybe has a bit of a point) and agree with you that elvis helped both of there careers

plus if we're gonna start hating artists for talking crap about other artists we like it be best not to look to closley at some of the things keith's said about other musicians over the yearswinking smiley
