The song performed live?

It's always been a failure. It's never crossed that line of being better like Shattered, Midnight Rambler, JJF, SFM, HTW or Start Me Up has live.

Guess, that is it. No need to purchase. Just download from BST section for free. Hardly there was any improvements in terms of sound quality.

The Swingin' Pig release is a mix of Perth and Sydney (cover says only Perth, this is wrong). You can get more from Sydney e. g. on "Happy Birthday Nicky" (DAC-017). (Or countless other releases.)

Yes, but you get three for the price of one.

Those unauthorized CDs are flooding the market, unbelievable how many releases there are. Just make a search at Amazon. Nothing new of course, everything copied from well known old bootlegs.

I always thought the versions which they played right after the album release were the better versions.

It's hard to get anything better than the 73 tour.

It's not remixed, so it probably isn't any better than the show you can get here in the vault.

At least the artwork is from the same era (although not always the same Tour) as the recording. My Atlantic City DVD I bought from a local store years ago had a photo from Bigger Bang Tour in the front. I don't care for such stuff anymore. Although you can buy it at official stores it's still a bootleg.

To the Rocks Off live discussion I agree that they did the best versions on the Voodoo Lounge Tour. It had its own groove and laidback feeling.

As well as the correct melody.

However, I like Mick's vocals on later renditions of Rocks Off. It felt like he finally cracked the riddle. In 94/95 too much of the song was sung on a very low register, imo.

On Amazon it says remastered. Hmmm… I will have to check my big collection I could have Rocks Off.

But what does remastered mean in this context? Probably a Bit of equalizing and that's it. They won't have any other sources than the well known bootlegs. It's just a marketing thing to call it remaster.

Of course the 73 versions are fantastic. They are hard to be compared.
The 95 version sounded too clean to my ears and the voice was somehow low.
When I listened to the version of 2019 I was surprised about the roughnes and power. I liked it a lot.
In 2022 I was at the show in Munich and they played Rocks Off. For me it was a very nice surprise and I liked it very much. I had a real good time at this show. Rocks Off, Out Of Time, 19th Nervous Breakdown, Street Fighting Man, Midnight Rambler and a very good energy of the band and the crowd. It was one of my top 5 from 26 Stones shows.

Me personally, I've never really liked the live versions of Rocks Off. They just fall short of the studio version on Exile. Maybe its the way Jagger sings the tune in concert? However, I think the live version from Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ, on August 14, 1994 on the Voodoo tour does it justice and gets it right: go to 13:17.

Thank you for your highly valued opinion. I'm including your above opinion about the 1973 Rocks Off performance from Sydney '73 with the great review/guide you did of the 1973 Brussel - King Biscuit Flower Hour Broadcasts. I would love to see you post an updated version. Several releases have been released since. Even though they are the same performances, there probably have been several upgrades since you wrote the piece.

What are your other favorite performances (songs) from 1973 & 1972?
