OT : Rockin' 1000 in Berlin 9th November
Date: October 27, 2024 18:00

Rockin' 1000 put on gigs which feature 1000 musicians playing together. A combination of guitarists, drummers, keyboards, bass and vocalists which usually takes place in a football stadium, such as the Stade de France. On Saturday 9th November there will be a performance in Berlin to mark the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. If any IORR rockers are going, I will see you there!

Hey Irix, many thanks for posting that link. It was great see the television coverage of the event. What a night it was! The logistics and technology behind linking up approximately 700 musicians across five different stages to synchronise together was remarkable. The rehearsal and final run through on the day was really fun and interesting as we listened through our ear buds to the coordinator speaking to each stage in turn checking sound levels etc and giving instructions accordingly.
Anyway, it was a historic occasion and quite special to be part of it. It was particularly emotional for some members of the band who were living in East Berlin back in 1989 and remember the day as “the best day of my life”. Especially the final song, Freiheit (freedom).

Great experience for everyone who was there. I think I saw some tears during "Freiheit"...

I can just imagine how emotional it must have been to either have been there or to have participated in the event, especially for those people who lived through and recall the events that led to the tearing down of the wall. For those of us born in the west/free world, it is barely comprehensible I should think.

I can't help but wonder what Messers Putin and Lukashenko might have been thinking if by chance they saw any of this on their TV screens !?
