MLB is a joke and I haven’t followed it closely since the strike of ‘94. Too many games, too many teams in the playoffs, outright cheaters don’t get punished (Astros World Series)
That said, RIP Pete Rose. Should be in the hall of fame for play alone. They made him a martyr and he never bet on his own team. How many schmucks are legally betting today?

I believe he admitted to betting on his own team, but supposedly always to win. (Still a problem given he was manager and could make decisions to put the health of his players at risk in the hopes of winning a game and therefore a bet).
Regardless, I believe he served his time and should have been reinstated.
Nobody loved baseball more than Pete Rose. And few were better than him at playing it.

Pete deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. It's a travesty Major League Baseball let him die without inducting him.
Modern sports all have some link to gambling these days.
And I think there's a mistake in the obit. I think Wee Willie Keeler has the NL record for longest hitting streak. Joe DiMaggio has the overall and AL record.

MLB has him at 45 but his Obituary from The New York Times, Tuesday, January 2nd, 1923 says 44.

It was a far different time then ... now MLB promotes gambling - gambling sites are advertising their odds within the game, announcers are even stating the gambling sites and stating the odds. So it was a travesty that they never changed that ruling and let Pete Rose in while he was still alive.

He deserves a place in the Hall of Fame. A plaque could be put up noting his gambling and banning for the same, but as a baseball player, he was one of the greatest. As for baseball itself, I haven't watched it since the glory days of the Baltimore Orioles and manager the late Earl Weaver.

That said, RIP Pete Rose. Should be in the hall of fame for play alone. They made him a martyr because of his gambling addiction and he never bet against his own team. How many schmucks are legally betting today?
