I read that Oasis sold 1.4 Million tickets for 17 gigs. With astronomic prices applied by TM: lowest price: 350$. That could lead to the impressive number of : 700 M$ in 17 shows, 40 M$ per show. Am I right or wrong.

I got my Cardiff ticket this afternoon (I was trying for four and a half hours)but man that was absolute carnage. I just read the odds were under 3 per cent to get a ticket. I don't know how I got a ticket when so many others did not and I really feel for those fans that missed out. Plenty of my mates did. All I will say is keep an eye on Twickets and also next week hopefully a few more shows may be added.

I'm off for a lie down as that was incredibly stressful (and a little unfair on those die hard fans that missed out).

I haven’t heard of people who have missed out. There’s still tickets available as we speak. The ticketmaster system is chaos, but some patience and skepticism (sold out categories aren’t sold out / they sticking you with expensive tickets) all fans will get tickets.

I know many who have missed out on tickets. Friends and family alike. All dates are sold out and they will need to now either buy secondary tickets (Twickets), wait for official returns (e.g canceled tickets) to be released or hope for additional shows.

Nature of the beast I guess with the demand for these shows. There has to be an easier and more fairer way of getting tickets for events like this though.

It was sold out at 7pm. Enough time for everybody, even for the ones logging in at 2pm. I did that just out of curiosity; some refreshing, going back and forth got me tickets for Wembley.

Still no tickets? That’s just people being impatient or not motivated enough. But even those will get tickets eventually.

Not sure how you motivate a computer screen that tells you that you are in a queue of 100000. Especially those that get to position 1 and then get thrown out to the back of the queue. Or those that get to payment and get thrown out. Or those that pay for tickets only to then go to a blank screen

Would love to know how you jumped to the front of those queues by some refreshing and going a bit back and forth....

They blamed the Sex Pistols when they got back and started touring that they only did it for the money, which was probably true (they did't like each other and weren't able to make new songs anymore), but still, maybe they deserved making some money and getting some new recognition. Also, Johnny Rotten, as moronic as he often is, especially the past couple of years, was a fantastic frontman and I can see how those concerts were worth it.

But Oasis? I liked their music a bit at the time, but after all the vitriol between those two, and seeing how Liam is an obnoxious fool, and how their comeback clearly is for the money, I find the whole endeavour rather ridiculous.

Of course, after writing this, I realise one could say something similar about the Stones after their "world war III", but at least they did make some new albums (although they weren't very good) and their tours, at least in the 90s and 00s, were still enjoyable on some level. But honestly, even with the Stones, I would have preferred if Keith would have concentrated on his solo career.

I don't know much about Noel's solo career, but I would have respected him more if he'd stuck to that.

I got lucky in the ballot and got a standing ticket for the premiere in Cardiff. I got a soft spot for the bluebirds so I'm gonna get a home shirt while there too. Never been to Wales so it'll be a blast! Did anyone else secure a ticket for the 4th of july? smileys with beer

As BowieStone puts it, some tickets kept surfacing sporadically on the Ticketmaster website and then immediately gone — as soon as they were available they were snatched up by someone — until early evening. I could have grabbed one if I had wanted, and I did hold one a few times but let it go, because, by the time I could do that, the bloody dynamic pricing had kicked in, perhaps not long after the general sale started at 9am, and the price had hiked up immensely. For Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium I tried, a seat on upper stand costed above £400 (the initial price was around £100). Ticketbastard indeed.

I never jumped to the front of a queue; I just waited. But you could wait by switching your phone off and making the best of your day in the meantime. You keep your spot—at least, I did. When it was finally my turn, I got tickets by refreshing and going back a couple of times.
As mentioned above, tickets kept popping up. They don’t put all the tickets on sale at once.

However, the flexible pricing is scandalous. There should be a law against it.

The point I was trying to make was when it came to the users turn (after many hours) they were thrown out of the queue. Thrown off the page completely. This should not happen...this isn't 2005 (Glastonbury ticket memories). This happend to many people even when they went to make payment. I feel for these people (and there are many) and it is not their fault.

Anyway, roll on July/August next year.

If this demand is real they will keep adding shows. This tour is about creating a big pile of pounds. Not the first to do that and won't be the last. Not a band I care for but if I did I would hop a plane and go. There are 2 bands I will be going to see hopefully next year. Its the Rolling Stones and U2 but if Oasis happens to be playing the same city on an off night I would go.

I didn’t buy the tickets (I lost interest in Oasis in the early 2000s, and the hype hasn’t rekindled it). I only tried to book tickets out of curiosity, but they weren’t at the original price; floor standing was over £300, and a seat was around £220.

Same for me. Waiting for additional dates or will try Twicket near show day. If I don’t get a ticket, so be it.

They were a cultural phenomenon and media sensation in the UK (not so much in the US), but unlike their glorious predecessors, musically they added nothing to what was already there. The novelty wore off pretty quickly.

Any artist can opt out of dynamic pricing, which it seems that Bros. Gallagher did not. So much for their words of apparent sympathy with fans faced with price-gouging.

All the public outrage around the Oasis ticket fiasco is astonishing in the sense that dynamic pricing and all the rest of it is absolutely nothing new and has been going on forever, as everyone here knows all too well, yet even many supposedly well-informed commentators (let alone average punters) seem to think that it's something out of the ordinary! Rather, it is a revelation to the many who have never before seen or heard of platinum tickets or been stuck in endless queues only to be frustratingly chucked off the site at the last hurdle for what could be any one of myriad reasons.

The only hope is that the outrage will at last lead to someone somewhere doing something about it.

Ha! Chance would be a fine thing. We continue to watch and wait.

what's the point of paying an astronomical amount of money to see a rock band the size of ants and completely inaudible, because they play too loud. Stay home and watch a DVD or youtube. Paying a fortune for that is just a scandal.

It's great in a way that such an extreme and high profile example of the ticketing scandal has put the issue firmly in the media spotlight.

Is it possible that governments may at last act to outlaw these hard faced secondary ticketing and dynamic pricing rip offs ?

Exactly. Oasis is getting a lump sum for the 14 shows. They have no further business at all with Ticketmaster.

I wonder if Oasis, when they grasp the big sums involved in touring, will continue touring till they become octogenarians like the Rolling Stones?

BBC have published a great report about the Oasis "Reunion" two days ago:

A £400m reunion? The potential risks and rewards of Oasis tour (BBC)

Some bits from the above article:

.....

"A deal would've been struck early by promoters, and I’ve heard numbers bandied around of the Gallagher brothers earning £50m each," says Jonathan Dean of the Sunday Times, who first reported the reunion tour. That £50m estimate was made by Birmingham City University about the initial 14 dates.

.....

"This is being called a world tour, but currently it’s not going further than England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland," he notes. "It doesn’t go to the rest of Europe, to America, so I think any earnings are completely up in the air until we know how far this tour is going to spread."

.....

There's a potential threat to Oasis's working-class credentials, for example. If this tour becomes financially and logistically inaccessible, it could undermine this image.

Standing tickets for the Oasis tour are priced around £150, but premium packages cost up to £506. Some unofficial re-sale tickets are going for £6,000, though the band has warned these could be cancelled.

Dynamic pricing is approved by the bands case by case, tour by tour, according to Ticketmaster. May be they say so just to coverb their back, anyway, there is more money to be made both by TM and the bands. It is a way of fooling desperate fans into paying more for the tickets, as they are scared about shos selling out.

The ticket release pattern is to hold back a lot of the best tickets, in order to drive up dynamic pricing. It is a scam, and if the lawyers in charge of governmental anti-trust fraud do wake up, they should hit Ticketmaster hard.

An article in the Times was illuminating for me re the 'real money issues' - apparently 2025 is the year Noel Gallagher will fully own the publishing rights to the Oasis back catalogue according to the original recording contracts. Value of back catalogues is dependent on streaming figures and Oasis has, traditionally, had lower streaming stats than the big artists who have sold their back catalogues for fabulous sums of recent years. A headline generating tour, publicity good or bad etc is already propelling the streaming stats up and raising the possibility of a payday for Noel Gallagher way above even the figures being bandied about for the tour itself.

Glad that the UK government is finally taking action - it's no good getting rid of touts if you allow Ticketmaster to become the biggest tout of all!

What no-one mentions in all this is the murky relationship between (some) bands and resellers with blocks of the best tickets going straight to resale without ever going near an official ticketing website

What is wrong with having your ID linked to your tickets? You upload your id when you buy the ticket and show it when you enter the stadium. Surely that would put the touts out of business?

Seems that the US Department of Justice is preparing to file Antitrust charges against Live Nation, the parent company of TicketBastards. It flows from the Taylor Swift ticket fiasco, but anyone who walked over hot coals to get Stones tix can see the similarities…and cheer.

Of course it's possible. The All England Lawn Tennis Club has its own ticketing ballot for Wimbledon and most of the UK tickets are non-transferable (debenture holders and overseas tennis associations can re-sell their tickets). They can and do randomly ask for ID on entry and refuse if you can't show you are the original buyer. The tickets are very clear you must bring ID.

More labor for the venue, which means they gotta jack the price even higher. Keep in mind only a sliver of events have this kind of demand.

The thing is, at least in the US, the government can't put a cap on the fee the bands charge and this is where the bulk of the income from dynamically priced tickets goes. They have a year to sell all the tickets. They could have put them on sale 6 weeks out at regular prices and still sold out immediately.
