Street Fighting Man '67 Radio Station DJ copy, London label, US Cover

US Label_Rolling Stones record scheduled for Heritage Auction in October 2024. Front page of the record covers police beating a young man who is demonstrating, on the back cover the police are dragging the young man away. Due to the civil violence against protesters in 1967 and 1968 the record with US picture cover was taken off the market, and only a few are known to have survived.
This record is from a Radio Station that received a copy in 1967 and went bankrupt soon after. All records that remained were sold to one person (he is now near 80 yrs. old) and this rare record with label has survived.

Reminds me a little of the Out Of Tears France EP. Eventually some of them made it onto the market at affordable prices. One day maybe it's the same with this one? And then some years later they're all in the trash and no one cares. My opinion.

The copy in Exhibitionism / Unzipped was on loan from The Hot Stuff Archive

That's bizarre since the song was recorded in the spring and finished and released as a single in the US in the summer of 1968 with that cover but "quickly withdrawn" because Decca was run by scared geezers.

Thank you everyone for the posts.
You of course would be right about the date, because you know more about the rolling stones. I have to admit that I am not as savvy about the release dates as you are.
If the DJ Copy was received in 1968 versus 1967 then it is 1968. The original DJ Only Copy and sleeve will be shown by heritage auctions in the beginning of October 2024 ... they had the record and sleeve verified.
Thank you for the correction.

OK it wasn't any criticism, just... uhhhh, wrong year.

Very interesting regardless! That art/cover was pulled quickly.

There are multiple sites that have information. One is discogs.com. Oddly enough, Wikipedia is usually accurate.

Maybe change the heading to Street Fighting Man '68 Radio Station DJ copy, London label, US Cover?

Thank you everyone for your comments.
All comments were very much appreciated.

I made a mistake, sorry.

The year for Street Fighting Man was 1968 versus 1967.
1968 the year of the Tet Offensive in Vietnam.
A time when millions were protesting.
The cover makes that moment ever more powerful.

The DJ copy only London Record and Cover were Verified via Heritage.

I thank everyone for the correction.

This will be very interesting to see it got through a Heritage Auction in October, 2024, because a much lesser-conditioned (VGish) copy than the one shown here went for (US) $81,375.00 in 2021.

Also, recently, Rockaway Records sold a esser (than this one) copy (VG outright) for $35,000.00 on eBay not long ago.

A few of us among hardcore Stones' collectors tried (and still try) to keep some kind of "list" of known copies. I personally know of 8 copies in collectors' hands. Among us all, we tended to speculate that there are 12-15 of these known to be in the hands of collectors. Perhaps this one will be new to the collectors' world.

Something to really keep an eye on, because this is THE quintessential Stones' collectible.

Thank you for your comment.
This record happened to be in the boxes of records 10s of thousands that my uncle and Godfather John Williamson (World War Two Hero and deceased) sold to me for $1 after his radio station went bankrupt - If I remember correctly (and I'm going on 77 years) sometime around the 1970s. Those were tumultuous times, and I just finished my time on the Corona Research Program. I kept thousands of the very early rhythm and blues records, and still have them today. I donated over 8,000 of the records to universities around the country that had record libraries where one would choose a record and listen via turn-tables. I gave away thousands of records to charities (senior homes for dances) throughout the years. I was going to give this record away also recently to a Friend who never missed a stones concert, but I never had that opportunity. I found out later while looking up the value of my R&B records (some are quite valuable) that the US Street Fighting Man by the Stones was rare. It was still in the original box in plastic covers when I looked. A very Pristine cover and DJ copy only record (both look pristime like the day they were released). If there are any bids, I will donate money to a specific charity - member for 32 years. I believe the Stones are great. But the bids will be what they will be - it doesn't really matter to me. Again, thank you for the comment and for placing a picture cover on my message. This will be the last message from me. Kind Regards
