I didn't see anyone mention her mention/praise of Matt Clifford as the one who kept the link open after the Milan gig. I suppose many here still don't "like" him and are loath to give him the credit he deserves for being Mick's musical right hand man...

Very true. I think it's because GODDESS IN THE DOORWAY was only 23 years ago. It's still too soon to forget.

Matt Clifford's damage crosses more than 2 decades. He is Mick's Yoko.

No one beats Yoko's high note shrieking though. NO ONE!

Actually, to me, later decades flat as a tack singing from Paul McCartney runs Yoko close..

I would argue that Matt's recreation of the Marx Brothers' famous mirror routine when Mick sings "Start Me Up" is a contender.

While it's sort of fun (for some of us at least), in all fairness, Matt did make significant contributions to the arrangements of "Continental Drift," "Terrifying," "Break the Spell," and even "Can't Be Seen" on STEEL WHEELS. He also did a terrific job with "Angel in My Heart" on WANDERING SPIRIT. I'm not a fan of his programming tracks for demos, but it did change the way Mick (and therefore the Stones) worked in the 21s Century. I like what he did with "Hideaway" and "Rain Fall Down" at least. I prefer Chuck's playing in the studio to Matt's because Chuck is much more traditional. Even something like Matt's piano additions to the bridge in "Living in the Heart of Love" were still a nice touch. But when I think of Matt, I still think of him rocking out on tambourine during "Brown Sugar." That's pure Matt Clifford to me.

Hey, say what you want about Matt, but he killed the piano part on Tumbling Dice at the Racket gig.

I wonder what happened to Sasha.

Maybe she waited for a phone call to do the tour that never came. Just because she'd got a cold that night in Milan now watching Chanel doing her job?

Sasha is young mother smiling smiley

One of the band's great strengths has always been their ability to embrace and use the different things which other musicians and technicians can give them.

Edited to add ...We all may not like everything others have brought to the party...but it's all added to the great variety and spice in the Stones' cannon of work.

The Stones have been an eight or ten piece band for fifty odd years in reality...

..and whilst there's always been a firm distinction between who's "in" the band and who's a "sideman/woman", musically, each has been given the freedom to contribute in their own unique style .
