Harsh to say its the worst place to see a concert, there are plenty of airbnds within a few miles of the stadium and the sound in the stadium is fantastic in that there aren't areas I've heard of that have poor sound like many of the stadium this tour.

Please do not twist my words. I said "Foxboro is one of the worst places", not the worst.
It takes eight - 8 - hours to walk from Foxboro to the nearest big city Boston. Just to compare, it takes one - 1 - hour to walk from SoFi Inglewood (LA) to the LAX area, where there are plenty of hotels.
Just name one venue on this tour in USA where it takes more than 8 hours to walk to the nearest city, mind you Ridgedale to Branson by walk is just 4 hours...

Did the Stones play in Boston pre-Gillette?

I have been going to the stadium in Foxboro every time the Stones play there, also for the rehearsals (with a hired car) back in 2002. I have taken the "special train, which is leaving 1-2 hours after the show is finished, I have been staying at nearby hotels through early booking, walking in the dark back to the hotels in heavy traffic roads, and this year at the The Walpole Motel rated at 6.4 on a scale 1-10, not even with a desk for my computer (to work with IORR reporting).
I assume 90% of those who go to Gillette Stadium drive a car. If you live in America that is perfectly normal and acceptable, but I don't drive a car on tour, so if/when I scale down on touring, then such a place, like Foxboro Stadium, is one of the first ones I would unselect.
It is just too much hazzle for a pedestrian fan. Also, fans get older and older, on average, that would be part of their calculations, when they plan future tours.

Santa Clara is, according to one route, 54 miles away from San Francisco.
If the Chicago Bears move out of the city and go to Arlington Heights it will be about 35 miles from Chicago. If they would've moved to Gary/East Chicago, IN it's about 30 miles. They're not doing either, so Soldier Field is 1.5 miles from downtown Chicago, near the Loop.
Foxborough is about 30 miles from Boston (that's what made me start looking at these other cities and NFL stadiums).
Arlington is 20 miles away from Dallas.
Orchard Park, NY is 15 miles from Buffalo, NY, whose NFL team oddly has a bison for their logo when buffalo are nowhere in North America and the city is not named after the animal.
Manhattan to Giants Stadium in New Jersey is 10 miles.
NRG Stadium, which is close to the Astrodome, in the middle of nowhere, is just over 9 miles from Houston.

Is there a source/link to that comment?

I can't believe you deciphered the secret code to having the Stones play where you want them to--send a message to customer service at the stadium you would like them to play at!!
