Somehow I've managed to miss this one over the years. Wow they were horrible!

Yikes.

Interesting.

I have a legal DVD release of the Granada TV show which is only 52 mins, and that's also got a lot of background stuff on it.

I tried to check how the two compare, but gave up when there was far too many bits in differing sequence to make it other than a mammoth life consuming task.

I'm not really up to date on various re/re/re-releases. Has a fuller version of the show than the Granada version ever been legally released?

(Fun Fact: This was about 2 weeks before Neil Armstrong stepped onto the luna surface.)

It's always puzzled me that, even back in '69, nobody had the sense not to tune the guitars in an air conditioned caravan on a hot summer's day.

If the AI corrects the out-of-tune passages in the future, it could be a quite good performance!

Do we see Bob Fripp off the standing on side of the stage?

This is very cool! Seems like the best songs were edited from the tv version. If they only find the footage for Loving Cup and SFM, too, I’d buy the bluray in a heartbeat.

How does the audio/video compare with the official archive blu ray release?

See the trailers of the 2015 release - [www.Amazon.com] , [TV.Apple.com] .

This is nicely done (by Mayflower). With one exception. Why the "hard" black bars left and right in the picture? A 4:3 video in HD should be 1440x1080 and NOT 1920x1080. The TV makes these bars by itself, why waste storage space for nothing...? I'll recode it properly for myself.

Watched this last night and it was great!

It seems it was edited with a couple of different sources and also looks like some Ai work was done to make it seem more streamlined and in sync.

If you watch till the end (after the full show) the video shows all the different sources that were used.

Although its not exactly the origianl source, its quality makes it very enjoyable to watch and listen.

Hmm, personally I think the official Blu-Ray is better. To each is own.

Well, not the lack of tuning so much, and the temperature doesn't make guitars sound bad consistently, but their playing of the songs is mind numbingly disconnected.

A lot of editing "AI"?....I prefer the uncut Granada version sounds more real to me...............

Not against AI but up to this point I don't think consumers have access to the good stuff. Imagine we had Peter Jackson capabilities the bootleg market would be flooded.winking smiley

Imagine indeed! Slightly off topic, but to reinforce your point, Peter Jackson now owns the original recordings of The Beatles at the Star Club. The Beatles KNOW this, and they are comfortable with him doing his thing with the tapes!! This comes from a video/podcast where I have, with my own eyes and ears, seen and heard Peter say this.

Yeah, coincidentally I just pulled the blu ray out a few weeks ago. I concur with your assessment.

CaptainCorrella, the idea of hearing The Beatles sound good in those days sounds impossible in my 1970s mind. I remember the disappointment vividly after playing the infamous record. Fingers crossed we get this release sometime soon.

Ladies & Gentleman, he could probably turn that into present day sound. Or maybe I have too much faith in him.

The dawn of a new age. The band just completed and is debuting the first of a series of masterpieces in BB, along with a newly acquired 20 year old guitarist before a couple of hundred thousand people. Now that's swagger. How much did they rehearse? Did they care? You can see the start of the Jagger/Taylor on stage communication that would be evident for the next 4 years. Some time ago I watched this show and saw a moment I have not since been able to find: It was Jagger looking over shoulder at Taylor with a smile and look that said "Yeah, this is what it's going to be like, kid." The show is ragged, raw, completely delicious and the film a gem such as it is. If you want to know what the Rolling Stones were about you'd watch this before more recent shows.

It sounds like Jaggers vocals have been isolated and a very strange reverb added. But overall it's fantastic to see it put together like this. Hard to believe they went from this (chaotic, messy, out of tune) to Ya Ya's in less than six months. I even enjoyed watching the crowd dispersal after the show. I really need to get a life!

A bit out of tune, a bit unrehearsed, maybe even a bit nervous and still searching for the right approach per song. On their way to one of the most creative and impressive periods in their career, if not the best. Thanks for sharing. thumbs up

Wow! I am impressed. The best Stones footage I have seen for a long time. Captures so well the band that special day at that special moment in their career. Naturally it is not 'perfect', not even terms of played songs, but I am not after that, but more like having a good enough impression of the show and its flow. Illusion or not, but this puts me there. The official STONES IN PARK is great as a historical document, but this speaks solely in terms of performance.

I have always had a warm spot for this show, and now seeing this new (to me) version I am more than thrilled. The band is seemingly unrehearsed, out of focus, even out of tune occasionally, but damn if there ever is a Stones show to be described as them being raw, daring, dark and dangerous - you know, what the Stones traditionally present - this is the one. Anything they did during the 70s is Mickey Mouse and Vegas compared to this. And they do all this in the front of 300 000 people and tv cameras... I guess back then that was no problem - you know, basically using such a spot as a rehearsal. Basically they sound like some Frisco hippie bands at the time, Big Brother or something - or, say, Blind Faith back home - jamming through the set (totally wild set list by today's standards), the arrangements not much but thought beforehand, but created there on stage by instinct (Taylor probably most of the time figuring out 'what a hec I will do now'). And some of those are absolutely crazy! Even Charlie Watts sounds like having taken acid... And Mick, he probably never been such a bad ass as a performer as he was during that day. No extra visuals or gimmicks were needed, all under daylight. Surely they would be more better, tight and focused in future, but probably not this wild, raw and spontaneous. And bad-ass.

Oh boy, those were the days...
