It's by far not the best Euro I've seen over the years.

Only Spain has played like they always did since the start of the tournament.
Holland is so-so.
England is awful
and my team France is about to make a new record, going to the semi final, without any goal during the playing, oh my my,
where is my team from 1998 or 2018 ?

Now, I hope the best will win, and for now to me it's Spain.

I love all the draws! Thursday night I bet less than 3 US dollars on 4 draws (Germany, England, France and Brazil)+ Colombia and won 270 dollars.

I almost only bet on draws, mind you a football game always starts 0-0.
Especially now with television rights UEFA and FIFA love to get those extra commercials squeezed in.

I hope Spain wins it.

they already did their job, i.e. silencing my neighborhood

Heartfelt thanks to the Dutch team for silencing the other part of my hometown, too.

very unikely.
On the day of England's seminfinal the Stones play LA and on the day before the final they play LA, too.
Even if Jagger heads to LAX right after their second show he will have some difficualties to make to Berlin in time (it's a more than 12 hours flight)

well, now – after winning a penalty shoot-out and knowing that Jagger is staying far away from the pitch – anything is possible for England…

Do we need a COPA AMERICA thread or can we just broaden this one to include it.

If so...GO CANADA! They are about as long a shot as you can imagine, in the semifinal Tuesday against Argentina.

Sure, Go Canada! That would be an upset in the football world.

There are a few things at play here I think.

It's true that no team has really lit up the tournament or played a their best...but the differences between the "big sides" and the others aren't half what they used to be.

All the groups had at least three teams who could all beat each other on their day. And these days they all have players who play for big teams in Europe's best leagues. [and in the modern game, the best club sides are at least the equal of the best national teams]

There's also been a lot of tactical influence on the way games have looked.
A lot of tactics seem to have been optimised to negate the way the other team plays. And it's been working.

"We're not sure how well we can play...but we're bloody well going to stop you playing"

The Netherlands against England... on my wedding day! I knew I would get married during the European Championships, but there seemed to me no chance that the Netherlands would reach the semi-finals and play on that day. Well, it might make it more memorable I guess...

I‘m sad for the Swiss…in my view they played the better tournament than England and would have deserved to reach the semi finals for the first time.

right !

as one of the greatest philosophs of the 20th century wrote and sang, Micky Jaggero, you can't always get what you want.

A Swedish sports journalist asked the French coach Didier Deschamps today why France, despite so many skilled players, played such a boring game of football.
The other attending journalists squirmed in their chairs, someone even giving up a laugh. Apparently not a suitable question for such a big leader...

The answer? "Do not watch the games then"...

Spain vs France tonight

The Spanish scored 11 goals while France scored only once on penalty.
Well, I admit it's worrying for my team so we're not favourite !grinning smiley

We need some kind of miracle to win except if France suddenly wakes up and shows much more efficiency in their attacks.

If Mbappé doesn't wear his mask on his nose then maybe it will help him to find the opposite nets.
Griezmann seems to be washed out so let him take some vitamins.
It's fortunate that we have a solid defense.

Let the best team win !

Not if you're a neutral bystander. Then the game itself comes first. And I think winning by not scoring goals goes against the whole idea with the game and is frightfully boring to look at
(some said that if France and England make the final they should skip the actual playing (0-0) and go directly to the penalty shootout...).

As someone from England I will take two 0-0's and two further penalty shoot out wins right now. I couldn't care less how we do it if it means lifting the trophy. We have had better squads, better players in certain positions and better style of play in the past and won nothing. Sorry neutrals.

Hoping for a Spain v Netherlands final so that attacking football will be encouraged throughout the game.

Tournament has been dominated by boring negative tactics, an unusual amount of own goals, fussy refereeing and the usual playacting/cheating by many players.

My country, Scotland, were hopeless. Far too cautious so I want to see risk-taking, attacking play rewarded.

Our fans, the Tartan Army were the most popular according to German popular opinion though so we can take some pride in that....smileys with beer

Unfortunately for my team, Spain deserved to win.
Once again, France showed a real lack of efficiency so no surprise.

Re: OT EURO 2024 football championship

Spain’s run in to the final:

•Croatia
•Italy
•Albania
•Georgia
•Germany
•France

6/6 wins, 13 goals scored, 3 conceded — no pens needed.

You cannot name a better tournament run, utter insanity.

I saw parts if a couple of quarter finals in Vancouver, on the screen, during lunch hours. Football is getting boring these days, when a compact defence may defeat any attacks. Mind you Norway was top 10 (actually #2) on the FIFA ranking in the mid 90’s with long passes from the way back to 192 cm high (6 inch 5) offencive receivers. The opponents soon figured it out and changed their defence.

The game tonight Spain vs France was amazing. Just mark you the name: YAMAL (FC Barcelona). He is 16 years old just a kid and the way he scored his goal wrapped with French defensive players do give us all hope about offensive football. So brilliant to watch! Just give me a TV screen on Sunday. I need to see the final, whether the opponent is England or The Netherlands!

Players are getting too good, too fast and too fit to have great games. They need to change some rules to regain atractiveness. Cancel offside, play 10-10, yellow card = 10 minutes sin bin etc.

Spain was fantastic (again). They are the only team deserving the cup. However as a dutch person I still have dreams winking smiley
