In as much as Preston’s opening act for the Stones’ 1973 tour was professionally recorded by Andy Johns and released as a live album, does that probably mean the Stones’ shows on those dates were also recorded

About half of the tour was professionally recorded -all UK shows, most German shows, and all shows from Rotterdam on.

You're young, you'll live to see it released (around 2050?). Most of us here won't. grinning smiley

(I do wonder why Mick opens the tape vault in homeopathic doses. I hope when the band is nomore that a true archivist will curate the live and studio archives properly, that is à la Grateful Dead).

When they released Brussels they included a picture of their vault, with multiple tapes of the Rotterdam shows. So, yes, they do exist.

Even notoriously stingy Experience Hendrix is releasing bootleg level recordings.

C'mon Mick! I'll mix 'em for free!!

We did get Brown Sugar from Rotterdam on a radio broadcast.

I spoke with Talo Tapani last year via Skype. He said he recorded rehearsals from 1973 and pitched an idea to Mick to release them.

Talo also said that he recorded every show where he could drive the Rolling Stones Mobile Unit. Some shows were not logistically possible to get to with the truck.

Talo has many photos for sale from 1973 and 1974.

You can contact him. He lives in the USA and had a successful architectural career.

Whoever wrote the credits for Crazy Mama is wrong because it doesn’t list Ron Wood on guitar.Just like the tracks Bill has complained about not being credited for playing bass

Ron is mentioned under solo and overdub ending.

Good catch, Mathijs.

That Black and Blue inner sleeve was very educational to me as a young teenager. I studied it for hours!

First I had to figure out that there was a thing called a 16-track master tape, and that each track held different voices/instruments. Second, it slowly dawned on me that my favorite solos on the record were played by two guys I had never heard of -- Harvey Mandel and Wayne Perkins. And that a guy whose name I had seen on both GHS and IORR (and Made in the Shade) was missing.

Eventually, after reading some Circus and Creem magazines, it all started to come together for me. My favorite era (retroactively) of the Rolling Stones had already come to an end when I was 13 and was just starting to follow them in real time.

We know for sure that the Philly shows, Ft. Worth, Houston and all MSG shows were recorded. Pittsburgh is rumored to be recorded as well.

It appears they do not have the master tapes of these shows, as nothing ever has been released from these shows in excellent quality, not even the shows recorded for L&G. They did overdubs on the Philly recordings, there are overdubs on L&G, but since then nothing has ever appeared.

Erwin Hoetjes proves in his book that tapes of the MSG shows were delivered at a law firm in New York, but to date no proof of existence is known.

Thanks for the info. It makes sense they’re missing because a 1972 tour album is definitely hole in the catalog.

There's a difference between soundboard and professional recording. A soundboard recording is a two channel mixed source straight as line out from the mixing board. A professional recording has line outs from each channel and recorded individually.

The Pittsburgh recording is a stereo soundboard recording, straight from the mixing desk.
