Big hockey fan...but I am NOT a fan of the Florida panthers. they played an aggressive and mean brand of hockey that relied quite often on hurting the opponent vs defeating them. They played dirty. The referees let it happen. The NHL rules are a joke. Edmonton played valiantly to overcome a 3 game defecit...they were gassed in the end....on to the draft end of this week.

Congrats to Florida! I was getting so sick of all the comments in Canada about how we should all be cheering for the Oilers to bring the cup back to Canada. Even though I live near Vancouver, I'm not a Canucks fan but I don't think any die hard fan of another Canadian team would cheer for the Oilers. Similar to a Red Sox fan cheering for the Yankees or NY Giants fans cheering for the Cowboys.
Congrats to McDavid for winning the Conn Smythe trophy as playoff MVP. He certainly is the best player in the world right now. It's too bad he didn't come onto the ice to accept it, first time that's happened. I can understand how pissed off he was at the moment but that might be the only time he ever wins it.

Yeah, there is no way all of Canada would have behind the Oilers.

I'm a full on Canucks fan - Thankful the Panthers won and Sam Reinhardt a local boy scored the winner. I know McDavid carried them on his back and is deserving of the Conn Smythe trophy but Bobrosky carried the Panthers also, yes had a couple not so great games in the final.. McDavid went scoreless in the last 2 games also.. That trophy really should go to the winning team imho.

There were A LOT of Canadians rooting for the Oilers to win the Cup.

If they had won, imagine how many more people would've said

I WAS ROOTING FOR THE OILERS - CANADA'S TEAM!!!

All of Canada.

Fans from across Canada of other teams were rooting for the Oilers.

Beyond absurd to say no Canadians weren't rooting for the Oilers.

But we Finns were rooting for Florida for similar nationalist reasons: More Finnish players winning the cup, lead by the captain Barkov.

Jep, most of the people (and Finnish media), that is, the casual NHL fans, similar like the people attending to a Rolling Stones concert do not particularly looking for to hear "Slave" there. Then there are some true deep hardcore fans who don't even root for their national team in international games, but, for some reason, Canada...

I sort of wanted to see that Oilers reverse sweep completed, but as a goalie, I am happy for Bobrovsky.

I didn't really have a dog in this fight, it's nice to be a neutral fan sometimes.

And the longer a series goes, the better.

Well, at least the Canadian kids can look forward to the ponds freezing over this Fall.

As a Panthers fan in South Florida, I was at game 7. What an experience. From my experience that night, the reputation of Canadians as the nicest people is quite well deserved. There were a lot of Oilers fans in the building and without exception they were nice people, while loudly supporting their team. Even after the game, many of them stayed to watch the Cup presentation and celebration and were high fiving and congratulating Panthers fans. Class act for sure. And nice to see in this crazy world in which we find ourselves these days.

He's the captain of the Oilers. He's not leaving the locker room for an award that isn't the Cup.

Oilers fans have been there when the Oilers lost - and won - the Cup. They understand what it takes. This is the third time they've lost in the Finals (NY Islanders, Carolina Hurricanes the previous two).

It's not easy winning the Cup, yet alone two times in a row, or four times in a row, or, the record, five times in a row.

Once is exhausting. You can read anything about any NHL team winning the Cup and you'll probably read about how exhausted they were.

If history repeats, 2025 will be Edmonton over Florida.

And then they're both done for about two decades.

Usually losing the Cup final means you're cursed for a long time. Florida wasn't.

Two decades between Cup losses. That's a long time. But not compared to some others.

Very few teams have lost in the final and have been cursed for a long time.

Although it depends on what a long time is.

LA Kings: lost in 1993, won in 2012 and 2014. Not really a long time.

St Louis: well, they lost in the SCF for their first three years... 49 years later, in their 52 year history, they won the Cup.

That's a very long time.

Vancouver? Obviously they lose every time.
