I think I saw the 97 Fogerty band twice... at the Chicago House of Blues and the Ampitheatre in Raleigh, NC...

It was a rockin' band, no doubt... one gripe I had about it, was that Kenny Aronoff was drumming... he's such a hard-hitting drummer he could prolly sit in for Jon Bonham with Page and Plant... the new drummer on this tour is alot jazzier... IMO, closer in style to Cos' Clifford.

I remember that Aronoff was playin' with JF when Fogerty did the David Letterman show... after the song Letterman remarked "well you better get yourself a drummer...", saying this tongue-in-cheek because Kenny is such an amazing talent on the drums... but he's just SO DAMN OVERPOWERING.

As I spend my salary on Mick and Co and do not go to any other acts:
This year
Calgary, Seattle, Portland, Anaheim, 2 Hollywood Bowl and San Diego
I cannot say which one was the best.
Seattle for the Arena
The bowl shows for the difference
San Diego for the audience and a very, very good show

Rolling Stones--Soldier Field in Chicago--a beautiful night weather-wise and Stones-wise. A show I'll never forget.

Thank you Gazza- the way the whole Lucinda cancellation thing, was handelled, was appalling, i decided on getting a refund, having been mucked about, and generally kept in the dark, by Ticketmaster and Shepherds Bush Empire, for weeks...i'll certainly be looking to go to any rescheduled shows.
As for Ryan Adams...what a loser. Great musician- but he really pissed me off this year. This was the 3rd time he's cancelled u.k dates, on me, in as many years.

I'd have to say the two Richard Thompsonshows I saw this year. I've seen him 18 times and he never gives a bad show. If you haven't seen him, do!

I like Richard, just fine, Chris - but it helps to be in sort of a "dark place" with him....

Saw in Atlanta....awesome. The single best musical event I've ever been to. Right at the stage. Great, loud sound. John was in a good mood. Nice mix on the set list.

High 5!

Fogerty doesn't take a back seat to anybody !

How about "Tombstone Shadow" ??? Does any song rock better than that ???

Interesting that for so many years "Travelin' Band" was the signature Creedence CLOSING song... then on this Tour JF opened with it...

I still like it better as the "ultimate Creedence closer"

I'm with you. There's no denying the ritualistic power of being part of a gathering for the Stones--both with one's own friends and with the larger "family" of fans. The sights, the sounds, everything.

Remember what Bill Graham said: "Every city where they played became the Capitol of Rock'n'Roll for that day." Amen to that.

And Gazza:

As a Dylan (and Band? and Emmy?) freak, you would have lost your mind at Levon's studio--and at "Big Pink." Plus, as I wrote--he did "Atlantic City."

"It Takes A Lot To Laugh..." slayed me.

Exactly...as you know I'm a huge Dylan fan but also a big fan of The Band and Emmylou Harris too...and when you throw the "Big Pink" story into the mix I wanted to cut your throat for a second...smiling smiley

The Band's version of "Atlantic City" has always been one of my favourite covers of any Springsteen song. And few singers in history have a voice to touch Levon's.

I've had the chance to meet Robbie Robertson twice in the past year, and besides being a great talent, he's a very nice guy in person. Most recently I met him at a signing for The Band box set, where he also did a cool Q & A beforehand.

The Eagles in Providence RI. I had second row center seats in front of Glenn Frey's microphone- no warm up band. They played two full sets, well over three hours and sounded absolutely fantastic. I paid $350 for a special package which ioncluded the seats, a great high quality pre concert meal in the arena, and got a bag of Eagle "goodies". I also won a denim Eagles jacket. The Stones should learn something from them. Forget a warm up act, play two sets and about thirty songs like the Eagles- then IO would feel I was getting my $450 worth. I love the Stones but the Eagles, by far, were the better entertainment in terms of value and sound. I am looking to try to get a similar package for the Eahles tour in Europe this coming summer.

Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, both in Seattle.

Allison Krause and her band last August near Seattle.

Last Sunday, at the BB King Blues Club in Times Square I went to the Sunday Gospel Brunch. The performers were the Harlem Gospel Choir. Wow, what a show! Not a long show, but full of energy and inspiration.

Well, keep an eye out at levonhelm.com for upcoming shows--don't know how long your MSG-related "Gazza USA '06" tour is going to last, but it might coincide with a "Ramble."

It was a stroke of unbelievable luck for me to get into the thing last minute. Also, an odd coincidence because I have been on a super Dylan kick lately and that always takes me hard into "The Basement Tapes." Made me absolutely drool when I saw that "Million Dollar Bash" had been performed in London--I'm pretty sure that you went to a few shows on the run, did you happen to see that one?

"Mojo" did a story a little while back about how the basement demos got to Marianne Faithful and became a driving force in the about-face that was "Beggar's Banquet." Had never realized how direct that influence was, but I suppose "Jigsaw Puzzle" or "Dear Doctor" should have made it clear.

Comment on thre latter: Billy Idol!! We have a revival with him in
our house... Another Sagittarius!! Wish I was a millionaire.
We had Fogerty in my town to, last spring; but I didnt go, just a liyttle tired of all his songs, that became standards at all the local pubs. Not ool Fog´s fault, though.

As A Family Man; best I saw - aside from the Stones - on tv was Plant from Tromsö. At least that´s what I recall.

But ya´d better better beware: the Soundtrack Of Our Lives have
a new album out now... !!!

I love Porcupine! I've seen them last Sunday in Tilburg at the 013. The stage with, as far as I'm concerned, the best sound in the Netherlands. Hands down the best concert this year!
