This is probably worthy of a new thread, but...I included Gimme Shelter and Thunder Road because, in my opinion, the perfect rock song (or any genre) is one where the songwriter combines lyrics and music so craftfully so that it's hard to tell where one starts and the other stops. A feature length film could be made of Thunder Road...there's a series of intricate chord changes almost like plot changes - and that wonderful coda which to my ears is like the closing credits. In Gimme Shelter, the guitar intro perfectly sets the stage for the dark, eerie lyrics that follow. Is this too deep for rock n roll? Probably. F*** it, I'll go with I Fought The Law too.
