I"m guessing it was played sometime during the Bridges to Babylon tour b/c i think it was on the list of songs that you could vote on. It was definitely played during the tour for Tattoo You as the opener.

I think it is time to delete some of the perma songs at the end of the setlist with other song standards like U.M.T----it is getting too boring

It is odd that UMT and LET'S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER have all but disappeared from Stones history. I wonder why? They are not dated by any means.

They caught so much static from various women's groups here in the US during Tattoo You Tour for Under My Thumb, especially since Jovan was their corperate sponsor.

Wasn't that the first time any rock band had a corporate sponsor for their tour?

Tickets were $25 for that tour! My how big business ruins everything!

Take out Honky Tonk Women, please!!! I'm soooo tired of this song. It's so...been done. Put in Under My Thumb or Let's Spend The Night Together or Street Fighting Man or Mother's Little Helper. Something Please. And whatever happened to that reworked version of 19th Nervous Breakdownn?

I actually heard Under My Thumb live during the Bridges tour a couple of times, and to be honest, I was not too impressed. It sounded quite lame compared to 1981 and 1982 when it was the ideal show openener. No comparison, really. In 1981/82, it was a barnstorming rocker, bringing everybody up to their feet. During BTB, the arrangement changed significantly, most notably the main riff was played on keyboards, whereas in 1981/82, it was played on guitar. All in all, during BTB, they tried to replicate the original studio version whereas in 1981/82, Under My Thumb had a guitar-driven arrangement and lived a life on its own, so to speak.

However, I am glad that songs like Under My Thumb, Let's Spend The Night Together, Time Is My Side and others are mentioned in this setlist discussion. It's definitely not either the warhorses or totally obscure tracks!

Oh yeah, back in 1981 they did re-arrange and interpret the songs with rock attitude: the riffs and intros that were not originally played with guitar, were transformed to guitar rockers then... "Under My Thumb" and "Let's Spend The Night Together" were superb examples: sweet sounding pop songs (irony) turned to be nasty rockers. I still think that the majestic opening of Still Life album is one of the greatest Rolling Stones moments ever.

Nowadays the transformation goes backwards: the songs that once were driven by nasty guitar, are now played by Chuck or the horns or other sidemen (think for example, "Bitch"). Once nasty rockers turn into a harmless Las Vegas numbers.

Do I sound nostalgic or something? smiling smiley

Don't worry even if you do, Doxa. It's not your fault. Blame it on the nowadays Stones sound and song arrangements that makes you (and me) praise the old days...

A wonderful song, and they did it over the years in a complete different manner. A great melodious guitar in '69 from Mick Taylor, great interweaving rhythm section at the end of the song and a rough sound all over during 81/82, more studio-like during the 89 tour. It would be very interesting to hear it today.

Well, the 1981 version outplays big time that one; thanks for the link!

my favorite version of UMT is in the 1981, and Got Live If You Want It era.

1969 was great, but not the same.

based on the dreadful versions from 97/98, I would say good riddance....

I had enough of Miss you, Bitch, Live with Me and Street Fighting Man

I wish they could hit europe with a bunch of different songs not performed for quite a while like Around and Around, Time is on My side, The last time, Let's Spend the nite together, and for Keith a Little T&A

I agree with the fact that it was lame in 98, I saw them so it would be a lot worse now. To add salt to injury it is also a stolen Motown song. I hope they will never play it again.

The setlist has to change except for the Super Bowl which will be Start Me and IORR!

UMT was the opener for the first Stones concert I visited in 1982.

The concrete of the 'Eretribune' of the Kuip started bouncing to the beat. Goose bumps!!

I'll never forget that moment.
