Worst song ever recorded by the Stones, or at least in the top 5 for sure!

I am always interested in what you have to say, but your increasingly telegram-like writing style is becoming hard to follow...

I find his writing telegram-style, but EASY to follow. Whatever happened to the poster "ProdigalSon22" or whatever it was...that guy had a unique, hard-to-follow style.

I saw the Stones play "Hot Stuff" on 8/1/94 at RFK. It was the only time they played it on the Voodoo Lounge. It was dancing to it, up very close. This seems to be a live song like "Harlem Shuffle" or "Undercover" in that it's probably only Mick's enthusiasm for the song that gets it into the setlist.

It's funny. When Black and Blue was first released, I thought that it was a complete pile of crap, and most critics trashed it. But, it has aged well. Similarly, Hot Stuff sounds pretty good when I hear it today; just a nice, solid groove, punctuated by Charlie's rim shots. Not a classic Stones opening track (Cf. SFR, Gimme Shelter, Brown Sugar), but decent enough.

Can't help getting a kick out of this one. mick's vocals are priceless. Guitars are pretty hot, and charlie's drums sound great on their best-sounding album.

a good song, but none of their best. among the better songs of BB, but not as good as Hey Negrita.

Re: Hot Stuff

I like the 1976 version. Great funky, disco-ish tune. Nowadays, it sounds really bad (with only the chorus being sung - and the "Vegas horns")...

Great song. Works better than Miss you live. Soryr, worked when Keith was on H.

Sorry, at the very bottom for me.

My impression was negative as I heard it first. The studio version was a little boring, the guitar (I think it was Harvey Mandel, am I right?) was too much in the backround of the mix. Then I heard it on "Love You Live" and it sounded great. Ronnie did a fine guitar work, he gave the song a new structure and atmosphere. On "Hot August Summer Night" the song was destroyed due to "@#$%& noises" (Mick Jagger), they had enormous sound problems during their gig. But you could hear that Ronnie did a great solo, too.

Oh, I'm wrong, "Hot Stuff" wasn't destroyed by sound problems, it was "Hey Negrita", the track they played before. Some feedback on "Hot Stuff" but otherwise it was okay. As I said great Ronnie solo.

Totally agree that the sound on that album is fantastic. Perfectly clear and crisp but still warm. And it's a great, great song; more proof that in their prime they could play any type of music better than just about anyone.

I became a fan in '76 (11 yo) and B&B was my first album I got as a present so I can never be objective about it, love Hot stuff!!

Heard both shows in The Hague 29/30 May from our backyard not far from the stadium, great memory >>

Love hot stuff too!!!

Studio version is great. 76 version with Ollie's percussion and wha wha was something else. But the best version could have been the Lix one, if only they insisted a little on it. I loved the different wha wha part, the funk bridge with nervous jazzy soloing by the brasses, darryl's groove. Of course it had to be rehearsed a little more: keith gets into the rythm more or less after 2/3 minutes of a complete mess and the parts and changes sounded a "little" unfocused, but ... I loved it!

good bit of funk - really liked the horn-fueuled arrangements from 94/02, too. RFD strikes me as a sort of update of its general musical landscape...

I bet you're a musician (too , like me) those details are the most interesting mostly

I'll tell you whats a really good version...

they played it on opening night of the VL tour in Washington DC and then I think they pretty much dropped it for the rest of the tour.

A pity because it absolutely smokes and the horn arrangement is fabtastic

sounded like the same horn arrangement again used on the 2 versions during the Licks tour, no? I liked.

Weird that musicians often into funk & discoshite.
Have a friend who is exactly like that; he counts all his songs in bpm.

It's not the song I want to hear first thing in the morning, like an alarm clock. But later in the day or in the evening, it's a great tune. Once that groove gets established (and it don't take long), the song really kills. I got to see the Tower show and Hot Stuff was a perfect song for a sweaty evening with the Rolling Stones in the outer provinces of the city of Philadelphia.
It's dangerously funky.

Not really, if you think about it. Musicians might tend more often to like music as music, rather than as a statement of subcultural allegiance, and don't see the boundaries so strictly.

Since when do you play, Baboon, and what?
