Should've gone with a cheesesteak tongue motif.

But ‘The Thinker’ is originally a work by French sculptor Auguste Rodin. The original bronze statue (181 cm size) was made in 1904 and is located in Paris (France) - [en.Wikipedia.org] .

Take the Broad Street Line to the Pattison stop. You will be at the stadium area there.

Any advice about how to take the subway, from south 12th street, to the venue?

...I am glad my fellow Stones brethren have spoken on this subject. This has been the case as far back as I can remember. I have also not been a fan of 90% of the shirts that plaster various stuff on the tongue.IMO.Voodoo tongue, great, most of them downhill after that.

...oddly enough, at the Foxboro show, the merch stand was out of everything, except for small and extra large shirts..........I asked the attendant about the "Boston Cream Pie" shirt (i actually liked the image, but not the fact that the "artist" thinks we Boston people relate or give a second thought about the pie).
....her answer.ALL SOLD OUT!!!(and early)!!!??

PHL has a museum entirely devoted to the works of Rodin. Alternate takes on The Thinker are displayed outside the main entrance, The poster sorta sucks anyway.

HBK - I went there last time I was in town in 2019, just before Covid lockdown. Good take - the Barnes was sold out. ;-)

Yes, but the origin of this statue is in Europe. Maybe a statue of George Washington then on a European tour poster?

Curious.

In the National Gallery of Victoria (Australia) here in Melbourne, there's a statue with a plaque that reads...

"The Thinker. 1884. Bronze. Felton Bequest, 1921. The Thinker was a principal element in Rodin's monumental Gates of Hell project commissioned in 1880 by the French govt. For this pair of bronze doors for a new museum of decorative arts, Rodin initially intended to portray Dante, the 14thC Florentine author of the Divine Comedy; however, the idea metamorphosed into the more universal image of a creative genius - naked, and lost in thought.

This version of The Thinker is Rodin's very first bronze casting of his much-loved and admired sculpture. It was acquired by the NGV from the collection of one of Rodin's earliest patrons, Constantine Ionides. He bought it from Rodin long before the artist achieved wide recognition. A recent conservation treatment has revealed that the coloured patina applied to the bronze is original to the work and is how Rodin intended it to look. The survival of an original finish is very rare for a 19thC bronze."

My bold emphasis. (It's not a very big statue).

This one is dated by the museum arguably 20 yrs before the 1904 noted above.

The sculpture 'The Thinker' in 71 cm size was created between 1880 and 1882, then enlarged in 1902 to 181 cm and after that bronze castings in this size were made (according to different Wikipedia pages).

There're more than 20 copies of 'The Thinker' statue worldwide - in full size among others in Paris, Copenhagen, Philadelphia, Tokyo, Vatican Museums, Toronto - [fr.Wikipedia.org] .

Philadelphia has the second-largest Rodin collection after Paris - but otherwise Auguste Rodin has nothing to do with Philadelphia. He didn't live there, nor was this statue created there.

The designer of the Philadelphia tour poster, Max Löffler, is from Germany (near Frankfurt a.M.) - [iorr.org] - this could explain the European connection.

Any local person able to comment on public transportation, specifically the train from downtown near City Hall to Lincoln Financial Field and return after show?

They should have done a tongue with the Liberty Bell.

It is one of the most visited tourist spots in Philadelphia.

And it would be a more recognizable part of the city.

Thanks, everyone, for all the tips and thoughts! I love this site so much.

I'm in. Don't have a ticket yet. I noticed that right before NYC, the tickets went down quite a bit, at like 8:15pm. That strategy makes me nervous but I really want a good seat/spot to a Stones show once and I can't afford $500+. I figure if they don't go down, I can always get GA back of the field. Any advice on this either way? Am I insane for trying to do this? (I should've driven up to Boston last week when I saw those tickets dropping but that's a real hike, I had a ton of work, and I wasn't feeling 100% physically.)

Secondarily, any locals who can tell me if you think it'll be possible for me to get to 30th Street Station to a bus back to NYC by 12:15am after the show? Seems to me that that's cutting it extremely close and the next bus isn't until 2am.

I am staying on S. 12th and was told to take the subway the Broad Street line to Pattison. Hope that applies to you also.

I have taken the subway before. It's packed going to and from the shows.

You'll be waiting a while after to the show to catch a train.

Agreed, this sucks too, as I'd like it played in Vancouver but less likely if they're playing it "too" often (and there's no such thing as too often for this song).

Thank you for the subway responces!

Regarding waiting for the last minute to buy tickets. I did this for NJ2. The box office was about sold out, did not receive and was not expecting to receive any drops again as of 7:30pm when I gave up and bought online. The best ticket prices were online between 36 and 12 hours before the show. I ended up paying more than full price plus fees. And I’m so glad I did, it was an awesome show and money well spent!
