They have done gorgeous music with Taylor.

Stones could have had a much better guitarplayer than Ron Wood. They have much better choices than Ron Wood,so it,s stupid to say he saved the Stones

Getting back to Ronnie, do many of you think Ronnie is much better than what we hear from his playing, I'm constantly frustrated he holds back to much, flashes of brilliance that make you feel yeah more Ronnie, much more.
I guess this is why Keith said that Ronnie is the most sympathetic guitarist he has ever played with.

Hard to think of a guitarist who could have played better live than Taylor in 1972-1973 .Joe Satriani is considered an incredible great.Yet his playing on Rolling Stone songs on his live shows with Jagger aren’t betterQuote

They didn't need a better one. That's not what the Stones are all about; It would have been the end of the Rolling Stones -becoming off-balance musically. Ask the majority of the fans.
With the exception of a few die-hard Taylorites, (like me). Or preferably an even better player than Taylor.

"Better" is such a broad term when it comes to guitar playing. Is Yngwie Malmsteen a better guitar player than Ronnie Wood? In terms of technical wizardry and speed, yes he is. But when it comes to musicality, feel, rhythm playing, supporting the rest of the band, Ronnie is a much better player.

From a guitar perspective, he certainly tailored [no pun intended] his playing to fit the slot .

There are no better guitarists than Taylor for the Stones, not just his playing, the songs he was involved in are the best Stones tracks as far as I'm concerned.
Ronnie brought mediocrity to the greatest rock band in the world, his creative input wasn't as inspiring to the band as Taylor's

Jimi Hendrix with the Rolling Stones?
you joke but that's an interesting hypothetical
imagine midnight rambler live with hendrix or cyhmk
but he would have probably gotten bored with them and moved on after a couple of years just like taylor and we would have just ended up with good old ronnie anyways

Oh, I definitely can imagine it. The Stones were the greatest R&R band in the world, but Hendrix was a force of nature.

Hard scenario for Mick and Keith. Keith probably would have taken even more minimalist riff master/rhythm guitarist role than with Taylor, and Mick should have moved even more like Jagger to keep the spotlight on him. Musically Jimi probably might prefered to work more with Brian than with the Dartford boys. The Jagger/Richards compositions might have a whole different direction if Jimi have had a hand in them...
But to develop this totally insane thought experiment further, I guess one needs a bit of acid or something...
But Ronnie is terrific.
