Almost hear you sigh!

Yeah I've drifted back into SW and rediscovered this lost gem.

Would be nice to have it played...maybe as an alternative to Angie/Wild Horses or YCAGWYW.

You are right, there are dozens of ballads I´d prefer
instead of Angie!

Anybody have a live copy they are willing to share?

They simply can't be bothered to mix it up. i.e not to play it safe.

I'm beginning to despise their conservative attitude.

(Yes AHYS would be magic, as it was ('89?)/90).

Fantastic song. One of the best and most underrated gems from the last two decades

Check out the version from that Tokyo TV broadcast (26.2.90), Elmo.

Marvellous stuff

It simply is a great STADIUM song. (As was Saint of Me). The heart-beat drum - the atmospherics.

(England 1 Germany 1 at the time!)

i don't think they actually played it in '89...not until '90, if memory serves.

Yes - it's one of the few redeemers from the mostly abysmal SW.

I HIGHLY doubt it will get played again - the Stones are quite "protective" of their lone slot reserved for ballads, and I cannot for the life of me imagine them actually going out on a limb and playing a relatively obscure track from the lost 80's....

Nothing abysmal about SW, T&A!

Their last genuine band album with a bit of zip and zest about it.

by 'gba', I mean five stones knocking it about together in the sudio.

Those were the days.

Ah, Nostalgia - It Almost Makes me Sigh!

A very beautiful song and often over looked in the overall Stones library.

Really nice arrangement on the studio recording with the spanish acoustic guitar - Keith if I'm not mistaken.

Attended 3 1989 shows but never got to hear this live although I do have it on some 1990 boots and it sounded just fine live.

I remember Mick singing it in the rain in Basel 1990. Didn't sound as good as the studio version but a beautiful song. A real tear jerker through a divorce.

I love that tune too. It would be nice to hear it, but I'm just glad the Stones are touring given their age and all they've gone through over the years!

Has always been my favorite track on SW

It's so very lonely, you're 2,000 Light Years from home

Remmeber it being played live in 1990. Really liked Mick sitting on the stairs while singing ... but at that time I preferred Ruby Tuesday which they also did.

I don't get comment ie: Four Stone Walls - 'I'm beginning to despise their conservative attitude.' when all this thread is commenting on is a song????

Anyway, top tune and a cracking video......

My favourite with "Continental" from that album. I think "Almost Hear You Sigh" is a best achievement of the Stones in trying to master the 80's studio production ideals (you know, that drum sound, over-production, a distinguished and a bit of corny Spanish style acoustic guitar solo, etc.). As a statement of its time, nothing to do with nostalgy or retro, it really does work, and still sounds convincing.

If they have used a bit more imagination for the chorus they might have another ballad hit like "Angie".

Would love to hear that beautiful song "live" again, but I'm afraid it won't happen.
