Yes, i hate the so expensive tickets because cheaper prices would mean...

...full- packet stadiums EVERYWHERE. And THAT'S the picture i love during every Stones tour. That's a typical picture of the "Stones history".

... a future new, younger "target group" for the Stones, for their music, their albums, their activities.

The Stones is by far the best live act in the world but now they became a prohibitive act. I accept the high ticket prices but not the prohibitive prices. They are able to make everyone who goes to see them first time a huge fan in a few minutes. A lot of young people want to see them but they are keeping the doors hermetically sealed. This policy is short-sighted.

I accept high ticket prices ! They are fine as long as the entertainment you are paying for performs to that high price.

What I don't accept are bands who charge too much for tickets when they don't perform to that price!

I think the top price in America should be $1000 minimum. Not for all tickets in what is currently the top tier but perhaps a 5th price level for only the closest lower level and floor seating. They could easily sell the best 500-1000 seats in the house at that price range. As a matter of fact I think they are being too generous and catering to the unwealthy and the die hard fans by not doing so. Count yourself lucky that you dont have to pay that much though if there is any true economic justice in this world they will charge that much for arena and stadium shows before its all over. They simply deserve it just for being the best and who cares what all the broke losers who can't pony up think about it.

One argument for the high ticket prices seems to be that "better the Stones earn the money instead for the scalpers".
In this case Stones earn more money on each ticket but the scalpers of course just on them they can sell (if even them, some tickets maybe are selled under face value outside the stadium).

The question: How big part of the tickets do you think the scalpers get their hands on?

1 %?, 5 %?, 10 %?...

Re: If you hate the ticket prices post here
Date: December 9, 2005 09:42

yes, I hate those prices and instead of visiting more than 10 concerts (as I usually did) I will attend 3 gigs only.

I have my doubts that they will sell out Vienna, it's far too expensive for the average family man. If you have 2 kids and a wife and you want to take your family with you you'll have to spend a fortune.

WAY TOO EXPENSIVE - U2 might sell out a stadium in Austria at this prices, but NOT the Stones - I'm open for bets ;-)

OK Since Mr. R. Knuth is accusing me for corruption I will not give him the pleasure. May be he is used to corruption, but I have paid full price for each and every single ticket I have used on this tour as well as other tours. Full price. Such a silly and insulting comment. You should feel ashamed.

By the way such posts like the one done by R. Knuth is offesive and personal and I would normally delete them. But as he has placed a public accusation I just have to kill it. Like I kill a bug. It'æ really sad that people can say such crap. And don't have any respect for other people.

but Dan, they are already charging and making $1000+ or the best seats. It just isn'tansparent because it is done through VIP Packages and deals with ticket brokers and most people are clueless that theysell what they can at high prices and then drop the prices and release the rest. That's why large sections are released the week before the show. Good way to optimize profits. They have little concern at this point about repeat business or building long term customers. Supply and demand, pure and simple. As long as people buy VIP and broker tix they will keep selling them, and rightfully so.

But if supply is manipulated then it really isn't supply and demand. But they should sell the $1000 seats right through Ticketmaster for people who don't know where to look for the VIP packages. Where I sat in Fresno is a good example of the kind of seat that should cost $1000, in major markets at least.

For a real tale of supply and demand you can read my write up of the Fresno ticket scene and my own experiences here:

I agree you should be able to buy the marked up ticket w/o having to buy the hotel as well, particularly in your home town.

Supply and demand are not constants over time and smart buyers wait until showtime when the supply is high and the demend is very low.

Can anyone tell me the price of a really good ticket to a really good/ great football match in Europe?

Is it less or more than a really good ticket to see the Stones?

This is an honest question, as I really have no clue.

It doesn't always work that way though. For the Hollywood Bowl shows the prices dropped a bit on Ebay in the two weeks preceding the show but on the day of the show the box office was closed with no tickets available and the price ran up again. Then again the scalpers had every inch of the venue and the surrounding area covered to snap up any extras.

But in most cases (like Fresno or Anaheim or any stadium show) you are correct.

"What I don't accept are bands who charge too much for tickets when they don't perform to that price!"

Yes Esky. Bands like U2, Oasis and Blur...

The Stones is the best live band, but their tickets prices are almost prohibitive. That's the only problem, to me. It has nothing to do with the quality of the band's performances wich are great. It has to do with how many people can't affort these prices...

it would be a lot less

prices vary from country to country, but the 3 top leagues would be Spain, England and Italy

For a top Premiership game in England, I guess anything from £35-60 for most clubs (I'm sure someone could correct me - Chelsea are perhaps the most expensive)

Italy and Spain are cheaper.

To TooTough:

I'm sorry I haven't responded sooner, however, you see I work my ass off so I can go see the Stones and do the things I want, so I'm not sitting around on the computor all the time. You wrote (because you're a know-nothing assuming @#$%&) that i must be 24 years old and have my folks buying all the tickets I want.

The truth is I'm 52 years old and have been a police officer for 32 years. I work extra jobs and all the overtime I can get so I can buy the high priced Stones tix. I don't even buy the most expensive one anymore.

The moral of the story is- Some of us WORK hard so we can go do the things we want.

People like you stand around and complain and think that somehow these four band members from England OWE YOU SOMETHING because you happen to admire their music.

I wonder- Do you think Keith Richards should have a say in hom much money you make?

There's nothing wrong with working hard for something you want. But then, a socialist like you wouldn't know anything about that.

Merry Christmas to you.

Try living in uk.

Why do we have to pay so much more for everything ,including Stones Tickets.

Our standard of living is lower than lots of European countries.

To travel to the hamden park gig and stay over in a cheap hotel ,with ticket will cost me at least £250 .

I see today in the times newspaper a 3 day trip on Eurostar to Paris + standing ticket for Stade de France all in £249 !!!!!!!!!!!

PS sorry to hear about the job situation in Sweden. Hope it improves soon

Straycatuk is right - we get ripped off for just about everything in the UK. But I have to disagree with his comment about Stones tickets - top price in US was/is $450. So far top price in UK is £150, as far as I'm aware, which is quite a bit less. How many people are employed to put and keep this show on the road?? I have no idea but it's definitely a LOT LOT more than a handful at each and every level, from scratch to finish. Correct me if I'm wrong but they're not all going to get paid on £20 tickets, are they? Get real. I can very well do without all the razzamatazz, the big venues and all this corporate shite in the background. I'd MUCH prefer it if they stuck to small venues at "regular" prices. On the other hand, if they did, I probably wouldn't stand much chance at all of getting in - then I'd REALLY REALLY be seriously complaining and so would all of you - along with the endless multitudes also locked out. At worst, anyone now always has the option to beg, steal and borrow for a ticket if they really feel it's worth it. If there are only a few thousand £10 or £20 tickets in a smaller venue your options narrow - in fact, you'd have to beg, steal and borrow a HELLUVA lot more to get a ticket if you were not one of the lucky ones. What's the parallel with opera, for example? It's not my thing but I'm told the tickets are very expensive. If that is true, what's the difference between that and a Stones concert in terms of cost? Person for person, I wouldn't be surprised if the opera works out to be more costly,

I don't get what Charlie was saying in that interview - if "they" offered us something else after this tour, we might take it. Who the hell is "they" to be offering something else to the Stones?? Isn't it the other way round? "They" are a LOT to blame for all this ticket nonsense.

Look at it any way you want, but £150 (+ booking fee + memeberships) for a stadium show (with a huge attendance) has to be unreasonable to the point of being vulgar and absurd, and if any of you believe the nonsense about them having to cover costs etc., then you need your heads examined. Similarly, let us get away from the absurd notion that just because we buy these tickets at ludicrous prices, that we must somehow, by some twisted logic, consider them to be worth it. We pay these ridiculous prices because as fans, we have to. I pay a lot for my gas and I think that's a rip-off as well.

How come U2, Robbie Williams et al can charge a third of the price and still exist very nicely?

Don't kid yourself boys and girls. We are all fans of the band, but sometimes in the cold light of day, the economics of the "greatest rock and roll band in the world" make we want to puke.

No, definely NOT just a concert. Not to them anyway.

No doubt, but I seriously doubt that THOSE costs have increased three, four or five-fold from what they were in 1998. (actually its seven-fold for the US shows in that time - $65 to $454)

NO band playing football stadiums or large arenas (and with heavy corporate sponsorship behind them) is going to make anything less than a fortune. That was still the case as far back as 1997-98 (the last tour before prices got silly).

Overheads arent THAT high a percentage. And I dont think inflation is that high either.
