I just heard the Samantha Fish interview at the Telluride Blues and Brews Festival. Would be worth a listen if someone can catch the stream. She talks about opening for the Stones being a dream of hers and getting the chance two was it coming true. The guy who runs Jazzfest made it happen.

I went to every show on the tour and did not see but a minute or two of the opening acts.

The Stones would not play longer and the doors wouldn't open later so it makes no difference.

My friend gave my Linda Lindas recording to the band's father. He actually commented positively back because when they said we wrote this song about our cat I yelled out "I LOVE MY CAT."

These days opening acts exists to help sell more T shirts and some bands really don't want to break the tradition and give back to a degree but I doubt many new converts are being made.

Thats it. More time to sell merch and beer. Cool that you got a recording back to the 'band. The Linda Lindas were not my thing but cool op to open for the Stones. They made the most of it.

You should come to Japan if next tour happens over there.
Out of the six Stones tour visits to the country, all but 2006 (Bigger Bang) didn’t offer an opening act.

FTR Richie Kotzen opened the 2006 show. I could have lived without that.

Well, there are good opening acts, and there are bad opening acts. In 2018 I saw Liam Gallagher, The Specials, Florence and the Machine and Richard Aschcroft. If you complain about that, you’re not into music. And I thought a lot of the opening acts tvis year was good as well even though I didn’t know all of them from before. The ones I’d line to mention was Gary Clark JR, Samantha Fish, Carin Leon (yes I thought the guy had a lot of attitude and was fun), Widespread Panic and Betty LaVette (whom I didn’t know from before, and ended up buying an album from). I do agree that a boring opening act playing generic rock’n’roll is tedious and boring, but when you get something good that enhances your day and you discover something new, I love it. If you have decided not to get into new music, then skip the opening act and stand in the back.

This fall Samantha Fish with Mitch Ryder headline Ruf Records' 30th Anniversary Celebration Tour. I didn't know Mitch Ryder was still performing; he's 79.

Also on the bill are Canned Heat w/Bernard Russell; and Ghalia Volt. Canned Heat is down to just one original member, the drummer, and in 2023 put out a farewell album, Finyl Vinyl, a live compilation from 2019-2021.

I'm seeing Samantha & company November 16th in Hopewell VA.
