They started the broadcast with two slow numbers?

Well, the original Keep Your Motor Running vinyl bootleg from the early 80's (1983?) has the following running order:

A1 All Down The Line
A2 Bitch
A3 Sweet Virginia
A4 Tumbling Dice
B1 Bye Bye Johnny
B2 Rip This Joint
B3 Gimme Shelter
B4 You Can't Always Get What You Want

Makes a bit more sense keeping in mind that it was going to be a single album (by omitting Brown Sugar, Happy, Uptight/Satisfaction).

As this vinyl bootleg contains overdubbed tracks, it was obviously not dubbed from the WMMS broadcast as there's no way that WMMS could have overdubbed tracks within a couple of weeks after the tour in August, when any overdub sessions supposedly did not happen before October.

It's more likely that the WMMS broadcast was a mere compilation of tracks that were chosen for further work, hence the random running order that has nothing to do with a finalised LP tracklist.

Therefore, Nico's entry should better read:

"Broadcast of a compilation of tracks chosen for the unreleased 1972 tour live-album" instead of misleading into thinking that the broadcast was in fact the finalised album.

That makes more sense, indeed.

I don't have Keep Your Motor Running, but these tracks are also available in the Rattlesnake box, methinks. At least there are some renditions there with obvious overdubs.

They took January of 1974 off!

Well, Jagger started mixing the tapes they had recorded in November in Munich...

Looking at the running time (5:00) I suppose it's actually two tracks - Bye Bye Johnny / Rip This Joint.

If it is the Cleveland broadcast, Bye Bye Johnny should not be on the tape.

Sorry to go all collector-completist on the thread but are the tracks on Keep Your Motor Running the same as those on Very Ancient, Thank You Kindly?

Very Ancient has Happy missing, and KYMR is better quality.

I also thought LYL would be a stronger album if it was a single album but I’m glad to have all of the tracks!

Very interesting. And I agree.

Are there any legal issues that would prevent the 1972 live album being released today?

From 1977 and on they could release new live renditions of ABKCO stuff.

Out of the gloom of possibly no future tours anymore, or even (worse case scenario) the stopping of playing live anymore. Could it give better chance to the releasing of things like this? That would be one thing good to come out of this as a fan of their live work, more peak live performance & recordings of Jones, Taylor, & Wood eras would be amazing

It's unlikely since LADIES AND GENTLEMEN... was released in 2017 on CD.

They did overdubs for the L&G movie, and they did overdubs for a possible LP release. Jagger wanted to have two sides, one with the Stones and one with Stevie Wonder, which Klein did not want and he vetoed the release. Same issue with 1973 tour: they wanted to release a mix of Wembley and Brussels, but couldn't reach an agreement with Klein. So the finished mixes went to KBFH for broadcast. For Love You Live there was less Klein owned material so an agreement could be met. The release was stalled due to Billy Preston demanding more money. Exit Preston.

Mathijs

I agree with you gaslight it’s unlikely but there’s always hope. This album for me deserves releasing, with Steve Wonder and that fabulous cover artwork. And if it is to come out, let’s hope it’s with a double digit dynamic range too smileys with beer

I'm all for it. There's not much left they could release that wouldn't be a repeat. Live releases with the deluxe TY and BAB are nice.

Given the change with the stage, tour name, art and even the sound something from Europe 1990 would be cool.

Can't see any reason to release anything else from 1973, 75, 76, 78, 81, 82, 89, 94, 65, 97, 98, 99, 02, 03 and especially anything from 2005 onward although what was released with HONK, except for the 4 guest spots, is probably enough for the NO FILTER tours, with 3 of the 4 guest spots from earlier tours, it's too bad because they had much better choices.

Ladies and Gentlemen has bad muddy sound.Maybe it could be remixed .Would love to hear other shows from1972,such as Philadelphia, New York, Charlotte and Washington DC.Also they haven’t released any shows from Hawaii , Australia or New Zealand1973.And would like to hear Wembley and Berlin shows from 1973.Also, there are some great shows from1975 ,like Toronto.

They should just release the original 1972 tour album, which I believe was a double album with Stevie Wonder.

I think I remember Roger Scott, the late, great and much-missed afternoon DJ on Capitol Radio in London playing the Uptight/Satisfaction medley. This would have been around 1978 or so. Am I going mad or did anyone else hear it? Roger Scott had access to Springsteen soundboards that no-one else did, being a Bruce superfan (some famous bootlegs were sourced from his collection I believe) but I don't know if he was a Stones insider.

You bet! A 1972/73 live anthology with audio and video would be superb.

Considering two aspects :

- Klein is no more and the release of Brussels 1973, L&G, the expanded GYYYO or RSRNRC on record is the proof that the band are now able to reach new agreements with ABKCO

- Market. As long as these release will generate profit there is hope to see such ones.

Personaly I would dream to get some the London 73 gig, featuring this incredible SFM version.
