Could "new era" mean that HD may in fact not be their final studio album? Would be great to get some clarity on that question as well during the conference.

yeah good point

'new era' doesn't really scream "we're wrapping it up folks" to me

though given the decade long struggle to finish this album i highly doubt there's gonna be a bunch of more albums composed of original material again

but who knows maybe they have a large surplus of finished songs from recent sessions in the can for use with future albums or they'll use blue & lonesome as a model going forward and release cover albums

or maybe some mixture of both

or were just reading to much into the phrase "new era" and it just meaningless marketing stuff

Is Fourth Generation a separate company, or is this the fourth generation of the Stones:

1. Brian
2. Taylor
3. Ronnie
4. Post-Charlie

Rolling Stones Confirm ‘Hackney Diamonds,’ First Studio Album in Nearly Two Decades

The legendary rock band will livestream their latest offering on Wednesday in a YouTube event with Jimmy Fallon

BY Miles Klee

Septembe 4, 2023

(...)
"The same event will feature Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood chatting on stage with Jimmy Fallon from the London borough of Hackney — a neighborhood “at the heart of” the new album, per the band’s official press release — about the new music and new era ahead."

This sentence in the article surprised me: "The LP is set to debut worldwide on Wednesday with an exclusive YouTube livestream". Wonder if that's actually true or if only the new single will be streamed?

The headline itself surprised me - "First Studio Album in Nearly Two Decades" - well...what about the covers album Blue and Lonesome from 2016? Certainly a studio album, and also grammy winner!
Yes the article clarifies it with "...Hackney Diamonds, their first original studio album since 2005’s A Bigger Bang", but writer Miles Klee and Rolling Stone should be ashamed of this fake news of a headline.

New era I think it means an active 23-24 which is incredible considering their ages. And new music sure makes it new.

A new eta for The Rolling Stones.

Hope that’s different than the “new phase” for The Beatles, as on the back cover of their last album, Let it Be.

I recall hearing a lot of the album described as "soulful," but we've also heard it's eclectic. That's really an accurate description for most Stones albums. You don't want all open-G rockers or another album of blues covers or all country or even a fast and slow side again. To me, it's never about what genre they're playing, it just matters if I love the song.

I’m all for eclecticism, but above all I’m hoping this album will feel COHESIVE, i.e., that all the songs feel inter-related, like they belong together somehow. Not just a bunch of unrelated tracks cobbled together.

On the best albums, the songs are much more than the sum of their parts. The seamless flow from one track to the next is a major part of the album’s quality.

When I bought some girls at the age of 15 assumed it was their last, because for God’s sake, they were 35! Funny, how your perception of ‘old’ changes.
In 76 Melody makers letter of the week carried the headline ‘Jagger is 33, so what?’ Hard to believe now.

So very true!!

I recall watching a VJ on TV back in 1983, discussing the just-released Undercover album. Part of the phrasing she used was "and with this album potentially being their last one"......little did we know back then that they'd still be releasing new material 7 studio albums later (and counting!).....

Finally looked at Watt's credits and it's not encouraging. It's like Jagger is going for the youth market who will never know or care this exists. Still looking forward to hearing it, I could be suprised, especially if he is just punching up stuff Jagger already wrote and not just sharing credit with him.

Look at how much better BTB aged compared to ABB. Risk taking often pays off.

when in 1982 I bought my first Stones album I knew that I have met something solid so solid that have and could stand the test of time, a gem. Not by chance Time is on my side was the anthem back then.

The music of the band has been the soundtrack of these forty years of my life. I have been skeptical from time to time and I claim that to keep an open and critical mind is fuel for a love that is true,

But being here, after more than forty years and feel the goosebumps waiting to hear a brand new Rolling Stones album, that I could not anticipate, it is far more than I expected and I thank the band for that

and I think of Charlie

1982 too here, the wonderful UMF guitar intro did it for me! Been a wonderful ride although it got off to a bumpy start with the DW fiasco and Kent's article in Spin.(?) that pretty much said it was over...Overall we've been blessed and...fleeced and we like it ;-)

The Hackney Diamonds launch is certainly causing a stir in the East End of London. Meanwhile in the West End of London, Christie's auction house are displaying one of the World's largest diamonds!

Hey, got a reply off Ben W, if the track listing is correct
then he is not on the new Album?

New Era = more Albums, but less or no touring but that may mean a month in Vegas or NYC

Guess the Fallon interview will spill the beans

Hi,manofwealthandtaste, how much of a stir is going on?

I am planning on catching a train and tube and then walking tomorrow but I’m now wondering if,by the time I get there, I’d see more by viewing online rather than actually being present - not that I’d be able to get inside anyway!

Ben's exact words are 'he does not think he is', after I sent him the track listing floating around. I then replied by saying, maybe he is on the deluxe?, he just replied by thanking me for the info.

I guess he may have signed a non disclosure, well just over 28 hours to find out
