Incredibly it's pretty much everything, no, that's on tape...as proven by the "Wings of Pegasus" channel. Not just Henley's vocals as was originally thought.

But like for Franki Valli, as long as you have suckers who are happy to throw their money at them, why would they change anything ? They can just churn out these shows by the mile, just coasting along. When you see people flocking to shows by "The Dire Straits Experience", "The Australian Pink Floyd" etc...it shows how little many/most people actually "care" about music and what it carries, it's just "good fun" and a "night out".

Yeah the Stones, McCartney, Deep Purple (and hopefully others) are not what they used to be but these guys still have integrity and still put up a "real" show where accidents can happen.

What better place to get away with Don Henley lip syncing than The Sphere, with its immersive light show to distract Eagles fans. I have seen the videos by Wings of Pegasus, that expose this deception.

Is the residency the final straw for Eagles.

No. Similar to Elton John, they will find ways to continue adding shows. Someone probably said, If you do 35 more shows you can make... and if they truly retire, well... more money is more money now than later, which is way less once shows are done because it's not happening with Spotify etc.

First and foremost, I'm happy you had such a great time. With the way the world is these days, you gotta find joy where you can, and I'm truly glad you had an unforgettable night as you put it.

I wouldn't want to rain on the parade or anything, but I found elements of your review interesting. I think talking about longevity, I've kinda boiled it down to (feel free to disagree) that most bands have a 10 year active period. Not a revolutionary thought, but after 10 years, either you burn out, break up, or start coasting. The new material is just less, either actively or because the muse is gone. The Beatles The Who, Zeppelin, The Kinks, the Eagles. SOMETIMES you can reinvent yourself, but generally most bands are boiled down to 10 years and the quality starts to dip or the band members start leaving.

I also think the public will only accept a certain amount of changes in your lineup. You mention Fleetwood Mac. Fleetwood Mac had a distinctive early period, then a long transition period, then what most consider the "classic" lineup. Worked out for them, but they couldn't anything after they solidified that. Same way as I don't think they'd have continued if they didn't find Linsey and Stevie. You only get so many chances and that was probably their last and they got REAL lucky. You also mention AC/DC. Super lucky post Bon to get Brian. It rarely happens. With maybe them and Iron Maiden. But at a certain point the public stops caring. Skid Row has gone through like 7 singers and sorry, no one cares if its not Sebastian Bach. People lose interest.

As for the rest, when I said the rain on parade stuff, I guess its just different strokes for different folks. The Eagles are great, and you talk about the lip syncing allegations. It doesn't seem to bother you, but to many it does. To me and others, the Eagles are not meant to be Cirque De Soleil. I like a visual, but if the music isn't even like what are we doing here? Its just not what I'd want to see. Thats similar to a band becoming a "brand" as you talk about with a lasting impact. KISS just ended their touring and want to continue as avatars. Just cause they can, in my mind, that doesn't mean its good. Its their band/brand, they can do whatever they want, but it loses the spirit of what I loved about them or the Eagles. Nostalgia is fine, its why I go see the Stones, so I don't need you to have something new to say. But if you're not singing live, its hard for me to justify, and its not bad for things to just be done. It seems the money is too good for most to stop nowadays. I get it, I'd probably feel the same in their situation, but its sad to see.

I see three general situations you get these days: the bands that still actively feel like they have something to say, or don't tour as much so when they do its still an event (like a David Gilmour). Then you have the bands that are just nostalgia machines. Not my favorite, but if they do it well why not still be out there bringing people joy. I may not show up, but I get why others would (that's your Rolling Stones these days, your Paul McCartneys, your The Who's). Then you have the bands that seem to have lost something so they supplement, and its more plugging holes than it is the legit band so many fell in love with (I'm talking about The Eagles, Roger Waters, KISS). If you like it, thats great, I'm truly not judging. But there's either vocal help, diminishing members left, that its really not the band I remember. It seems like a guy like Don who knows he doesn't make as much money touring as himself than with the "brand". Its the world we live in these days, and there's something for everyone. People can enjoy it and others can ignore it. But its strange to think that in 20 years I expect to see so many authorized cover bands of the same bands from the 70s than many new ones making it big, or just full VR/avatar experiences of bands that would have been inconceivable in 1972. Things change and I get that, but just cause we have the technology and people want nostalgia at a certain point it feels like evolving processes is actually leading to stunting interest in anything else. We have state of the art technology being used to replicate or freeze us in a past moment in time.

The only truly unforgettable part of the concert for me was the first glimpse inside The Sphere through the tunnel—it was stunning.

The concert itself was good, though I’d have preferred more early Eagles material and less focus on Joe Walsh solos.

The visuals were impressive, highlighting the potential of this type of venue to elevate performances for specific artists.

I’d read reports about pre-recorded tracks beforehand but didn’t notice any obvious lip-syncing. Large screen close-ups of Henley and Walsh during songs like Witchy Woman and Desperado didn’t show anything suspicious, and you can see for yourself by watching my videos in the post.

That said, I’ve seen clips like Pegasus where, if Henley times it perfectly (and who knows the songs better than him?), it could be happening.

I’m not sure how pre-recorded tracks work—whether it’s full lip-syncing, singing along, or auto-tuning—but it’s likely a trend we’re going to see more of as technology advances and musicians age.

Did the Eagles use it? If they did, I didn’t notice, and I was watching for it.

Chris Holt Joins the Eagles As Touring Guitarist, Replacing Steuart Smith

The Eagles had a new face in town to kick off its 2025 run of residency gigs at Las Vegas’ Sphere. At the veteran band’s gig Jan. 17, they took the stage with veteran Dallas session guitarist Chris Holt, who was introduced to the audience by singer-drummer-guitarist Don Henley.

In a video posted by Idol Records, Henley welcomed Holt “on the first night of his side hustle with the Eagles.” The Dallas Morning News reported on Thursday (Jan. 23), that Holt is replacing longtime Eagles guitarist Steuart Smith, who recently announced that after a nearly 25-year run with the group, he was stepping down due to a diagnosis of Parkinsonism, a neurological condition that causes slow movements, tremors and stiffness.

“I’m trying to fill the giant shoes of all three that came before me,” Holt told the paper in reference to previous Eagles guitarists Don Felder and Bernie Leadon. “It’s some of the most beautiful guitar work ever recorded, in my opinion. It’s the highest honor for me to do it, and it’s my duty to get it right.” The paper noted that Smith and Holt are good friends who’ve performed together in the past in Henley’s solo band.

Smith, who has played with country luminaries including Dolly Parton, Rosanne Cash and Vince Gill, started his gig as a touring member of the Eagles in 2001, after the veteran group booted longtime member Felder. Holt, who has played with everyone from Bob Dylan to Ringo Starr, James Taylor, Stevie Nicks, the Chicks and, most recently Heartbreakers member Mike Campbell’s Dirty Knobs, told the Morning News that playing guitar and singing harmony with the Eagles as part of their Long Goodbye tour is “definitely challenging.”

“There’s a ton of iconic lead guitar to play — solos that people know every note of — so you wanna make sure you get the tones and the phrasing just right,” he said. “The Eagles are legendary perfectionists and the parts are tricky, so it’s no easy feat to nail it, every time.”

The Eagles kicked off its Sphere residency in September with Smith, who the paper said revealed his departure in a recent statement: “I must bow out of my role with the Eagles while I can still do so gracefully. It’s been a great quarter of a century, and I had hoped to be able to finish out this year with the band. But I must now do what’s best for all concerned.”

The paper also noted that in a separate statement, Henley– the group’s only remaining original member — thanked Smith for his long tenure. “The Eagles will be forever grateful for the extraordinary talents that he brought to both our recordings and live performances,” he said. “Steuart will be greatly missed, but he will always be a part of our musical family. We know our many fans join us in wishing him well.”

It's very likely that during rehearsals it's decided to use studio recordings for vocals so they set the beats per minute and stick with it and either do new recordings of a vocal track or, who knows, it could be the original. With in ear monitors someone can tell him, give him a count and he can perfectly mime it.

Steven Tyler used studio recordings in 1989 (and apparently ever since - the Holland 1994 video is hilarious), it's insanely obvious, for the chorus of Dude...

Where is Steven Tyler lip syncing? Just the chorus? He's pretty clearly live most of that track. I only kinda noticed it at the end, and maybe all the chorus' are lip synced? But overall, it look pretty live to me, and also just shows what a @#$%& frontman Steven Tyler is.
