Where else could one see James Burton, Skunk Baxter, Brian May, Albert Lee, Van Morrison, John Oates, Mickey Dolenz, Ronnie )an d possibly Robert Plant).

Wow!

Thanks for the reports, photos, and links. Sounds like a fantastic event for a worthwhile cause. Considering that James was in critical condition as recently as last Thanksgiving following hip replacement surgery, this must have been a very special performance:

Good on all the participants!

Too many cooks spoil the broth. Bit of a shambles i thought.

Good cause though so great in that respect.

I was at the Palladium. The show was brilliant. Total running time was 3 hours.
It was very interesting to see that the stars are also only human beeings. Ronnie and Brian were in the loge and had a great time.

That show was quite an extravaganza and went on an hour longer than billed. If the likes of Micky Dolenz and John Oates are still performing elsewhere I didn't know it and so was really happy to see them and loved their performances. With James Burton himself and so many friends coming on stage, there were plenty of highlights but the standout one for me was Brian May and Jason Scheff doing my favourite Chicago song 25 or 6 to 4. After his initial appearance on the first two songs, Ronnie later returned to play with Van Morrison and in the interim was in one of the boxes with Sally and thoroughly enjoying Micky Dolenz's performance in particular.

I was also there. I prefered the first act to the second. James Burton played through the whole first act. He stood for the first couple of songs before sitting for the rest. Brian May seemed to get the biggest reaction from the crowd and seemed to be amazed that he was playing with Burton (again). Ronnie Wood was a bit of a hanger on for the first few songs but when he came back during the Van Morrison set he was far more involved and really played well. For me the second act lagged a bit, after the first section with James Burton (including a great "boots are made for walking" he left the stage and guests came out as guest performers. I am not a huge fan of Hall and Oakes or Chicago so both fell a bit flat to me. Brian May was great on 25 or 6 to 4 but the extended solos seemed to break the MD. Leo Green was entertaining to watch as he tried to conduct the musicians (and largely failed) but there were too many players on stage and a lot of what was played by the backing band was unnecessary. Jeff Skunk Baxter was great and he seemed a lot more laid back and fun that I was expecting, he always seemed a bit serious to me but this was the first time seeing him live. James Burton seemed a bit frail and I can't see this type of event being repeated. His soloing was excellent and he seems to have found an excellent format to deliver shows which will no doubt be "borrowed" by other elder artists (myself included) in the future. Because the event overran I had to leave just before 11pm to get home, so I don't know how it ended.....

Struggling to link to photos!

I really enjoyed the evening - and most of the performers seemed to as well. There was a late start due to some technical difficulty - we could hear Brian May's plaintive voice saying "Can you hear me?" but the curtain remained down for ten mins. Once they got going the first half was tremendous fun. Ronnie was, appropriately, wearing his blue suede shoes for that one; the set with Van Morrison ended a bit oddly with the latter just wandering off leaving Ronnie and James Burton to end on their own. I gather he does that quite often but Ron looked as if he was wishing for Mick to give the sign to end. Agree with those who preferred the first to second half but boy did we get value for money. Surprisingly my faves were John Oates Elvis set and Brian's jam with Jason Scheff, but everyone was great fun. After all the great numbers, thanks to Brian May, who sang early on, I ended up with "Hello Mary Lou" as my annoying ear worm all night!

Brian May is a phenomenal guitar player, and it was moving to hear him describe how James Burton influenced him, but he sort of stuck out like a sore thumb in those video clips.

Great! Any plans for him and Daryl [Hall] to go on tour? In Europe? Would love to see them again!

I think "Tear It Up" is a Johnny Burnette song.

Anything like this is invariably a bit shambolic when every bugger's on stage at once ...still a lot of fun though .grinning smiley

Having now been able to see the end of the gig and other parts from another view I am disappointed. I thought that Paul Schaffer soloed while playing the bass part! Turns out it was the other piano player doing the left hand. I spent years learning to play both parts and have driven myself insane!!!

In February 1967, Micky Dolenz and Michael Nesmith were in London and the Beatles threw a party for the Monkees in London.[2] According to Dolenz, the song was written about this party held at the Speakeasy nightclub. There are references in the song to the Beatles ("the four kings of EMI") and to other party attendees such as Cass Elliot of the Mamas & the Papas ("the girl in yellow dress"),[3] and Dolenz's future wife Top of the Pops "disc girl" Samantha Juste ("She's a wonderful lady", "the being known as Wonder Girl").[4][2] From Wikipedia so it has to be true

This one is also great.
Blue Suede Shoes.
Thank you very much Matt Lee.

And this one as well.
Van Morrison seems to have fun with Ronnie Wood and obviously enjoys himself a lot.
