Instructions are for Google Chrome browser ...

Works. Just change the setting in the bowser (no sign-in or login required). Caution when you clear the complete browser data - make an exception for website settings.

Simplified, temporary solutions (while you're on IORR):

Chrome:

- click the lock icon, then click Site Settings
- scroll to Insecure Content, then use the drop-down list to change 'Block (default)' to 'Allow'
- reload the webpage

Revert these steps after watching the YT-videos to increase your browser security - click on 'Not secure' and block insecure content again.

Firefox:

- click on the lock icon, then 'Connection is secure' and then 'Disable protection for now'

Revert these steps after watching the YT-videos to increase your browser security: click on the crossed-out lock icon, then 'Connection is insecure' and then 'Enable protection'.

MS Edge:

- click on the lock icon, then click Site Permissions
- scroll to Insecure Content, then use the drop-down list to change 'Block (default)' to 'Allow'
- reload the webpage

Revert these steps after watching the YT-videos to increase your browser security - click on 'Not secure', then 'Site Permissions' and block insecure content again.

Apple Safari:

Currently no solution at all.

For safari users try this.......

Doesn't work. It's just about the autoplay function - not about loading mixed http/https content. "Safari does not allow any mixed content" - [Developer.Mozilla.org] .

This should just work, no matter what OS or browser.

Like I said in the thread: Posting links on IORR - youtube etc
This is a security measure related to your browser, and not to IORR.
All of IORR is 100% secure i.e. https coded.

By using the settings mentioned above you will be able to allow mixed security links to show up in IORR.
This may work for links made by friendly posters.
Please be aware of the fact that links may be unfriendly, that is why browsers do have this security setting by default, to avoid users from getting hijacked through insecure links.

Playing embedded YT-videos worked until 12-Apr-2023 and the browser was not changed and got no (silent) updates. So it must be either YouTube, Cloudflare or IORR.

So ... my thinking is that iorr is still 100% secure, even if I allow YouTube to display "insecure content"... that is, the video playing within the forum.

Am I correct?
Anyone?

IORR is 100% secure.

But... if you choose to enable insecure links on IORR, in your browser, like it is explained in the first post in this thread, then you allow display of any external or internal links anyone may post on the IORR forum. Secure and insecure.

IORR is a safe place, never hacked, and users need my approval to post, but if a mad user choose to post an insecure link to an external hostile site, then it would be safe to avoid clicking it. There is a reason why browsers have built in requirement for secure links.

The rest of the IORR site i.e. all of the editorial IORR pages are always secure, as published by me, they are not on the forum, but I would not enable insecure links on any site in my browser. I have been working with IT and privacy/security since the early 90's, I would never lower the security threshold on any system.

With the Firefox browser you can check if the connections are secure. Click on the lock icon, then 'connection is secure', further on 'more informations' and then a window opens with 4 (or more) tabs which are called 'General', 'Content', 'Privacy' and 'Security'. In 'Content' you can see that all https-elements are loaded via https while the embedded YT-videos are only http as they were linked in the post. In 'Security' you can see that IORR in general is 100% secure and https encrypted. If you temporarily unblock insecure content, then these parts are not encrypted.

It's called the time machine and you have to go back 25 years from now.

The process that I explained in the first post of this thread was just a workaround to get the YouTube videos to display & play in the forum.
BV, I assume it doesn't create any other risk?... Is that right?

BV, would someone have to physically CLICK on an insecure link in the forum , one posted by a so-called 'mad user' to actually pose a threat?
