Question for the drummers amongst us: when exactly did Charlie start to use the famous 18" flat ride cymbal (that supposedly is of unknown brand)?

If memory serves he got it in Paris late 1977 or early 1978.

They recorded bottoms for SOME GIRLS in 1977. Charlie most likely got the China crash in December for those sessions - it's not all over SOME GIRLS nor is it all over TATOO YOU.

the flat ride is not the china. I don't recall the flat ride on the Some Girls tour.

The beauty of the Charlie China crash era's beginnings is its span of time: Start Me Up doesn't have it - just like Miss You.

Yet Some Girls has it on two tracks (as I can recall).

Which means: whatever tracks of the SOME GIRLS sessions (the live band bottoms of) that ended up on EMOTIONAL RESCUE and TATTOO YOU (of which no new live band/bottoms were recorded for) come from those earlier 1977 SOME GIRLS sessions recordings: the tracks that are pre-UFIP China crash.

No, it isn't. It is an 16". Look closely, do Google image searches.

I don't think 16" flat rides exist, that would be a crash ride.

Objects that are closer to the camera (or our eyes) appear larger relative to objects that are farther away... especially in a wide-angle view like this.
So judging the drums' and cymbals' relative diameters is a little more complicated...
