The one from Live At The Max is faster and more impressive, but then you don't see his hands so it might be an overdub, but I'm not sure.

It's just an open string scale played fast from the high to low e-string and down again, nothing overly complicated.

2120 South Michigan Avenue long version .. is that Keith on solo ? Great one

That is a really good early Keith solo but Brian makes the song with his harmonica!

It sounds to me that the guitar section was relatively sober in 1990. Jagger's orders?

For my money, it’s Keith and Ronnie’s best tour.

Really? I guess I haven’t heard any other songs featuring him shredding Spanish licks in the middle of a song.

Different chords and different effect, but listen at 5:02 here. He's doing the same thing.

Fantastic overview! The licks he plays in Rock and a Hard Plays is literally the same as the licks he played on Ruby Tuesday, including the sliding double stop. Completely new to me!

This is really lame reasoning, and what a waste of time actually to post this. They build an entire career out of doing things we didn't expect or sounded different. If not, they would have spent 60 years playing Chuck Berry covers.

That was my first thought too - but if you listen carefully to the lead guitar played by Ronnie in this version you will clearly notice that this is Keith on a very good day - playing this solo.
Because: the minute Keith starts soloing Ronnies lead playing stops, and he plays chords.
Just listen to it again winking smiley

It's better heard on the soundboard version:

By the way: the solo on the iorr albums original version of Luxury is played by Keith too - as is the solo on the ElMo 77's Version

Ronnie starts out playing something similar to what Keith played on the album version (1:28). Then he picks it up again round 2:12 for the «harder, harder»-part. He plays some more licks again round 3:10, for the second «harder, harder»-part.

It's Ronnie all the way, even though the channels sort of switch toward the end in this recording.

Keith plays the open G all the way through, without playing any solos.

The solo's on the live version are all Wood, Keith keeps chopping away the open G chords with heavy MXR Phase 100 sound.

It's totally unintelligible to me what Jagger says, it's mumbling like he does at 2:14. But whatever Jagger says, it's Wood who starts to solo. The 8 bars starting at 1:45 it just totally signature Ron Wood. And, Keith's continues to play the heavy-handed open G chords under the lead guitar. There really is no arguing here...

Who is playing those palm muted 8th and 16th notes around 2:06 etc, is that Keith? It was very fashionable in 8-tees top 40 music .

Because Keith's trade mark sound down the years came to be those wonderful 5 string grooves...folks often forget that he can do other things too.

The thing with keith is that he always wants what he plays to serve the song, not his own musical ego.

Wow I’m sorry I haven’t heard every single lick he’s ever played! It didn’t sound like anything I’ve ever heard him do before and frankly I haven’t heard that guitar tone before.

I haven’t heard that tour before and if this site isn’t about discovering new things then what’s the point?

Well that tour was a bit different .
A disciplined production...rather than getting coked up and clowning around for a couple of hours grinning smiley

Whether that was a good or a bad thing...opinions differ .

In the case of Mick Taylor’s “Spanish,” I act usually DO think he was thinking about a scale.

The whole thing is based on natural minor. I did a video about that too!

[youtu.be]

Maybe you can do a video on the one below. There's much more going on than the studio version. Thanks. thumbs up
