What is your favorite Keith Richards guitar solo on a Rolling Stones studio album? (Sorry if this has been posted before. I tried to search for it…)

Almost Hear You Sigh and Where The Boys Go.

Gimme Shelter - Monkey Man comes close; but Gimme Shelter stands out in the history of rock'n'roll, blues and pop, in my opinion.

I've always been addicted to Keith's "Chuck Berry on steroids" stylings...

...but the solo and fills on SFTD remain some of nastiest and most menacing guitar ever recorded.

A song where he sings or a guitar solo?

Ha...I read 'solo' as vocal. But yeah it probably reads better as guitar solo.

In that case, for me, SFTD.

Of course! And at the opposite side of the KR spectrum I'd add "999".

My 3rdfav would be "Demon", a totally overlooked track, alas...

Sorry! I meant guitar solo. Should’ve been clearer.

Short & curlies, very juicy and melodic throughout the entire song.

Ok, there I have to go to the roots. When Keith Richards played Little Queenie and Whole Lotta Shakin´with with Jerry Lee 1983 - and I got to see it on Swedish televison - that really blew my mind. And it still does. So RAW and rocking and tasteful and it was like...amzing. Not Some Girls, not Tattoo You, not Undercover. It was Keith. Freedom!!!

That's Keith? Sounds more like Mick Taylor to me.

I like when he sticks to the rhythm or keeps the leads short and sweet.

Great video Dutchman, this is like a Rorschach test for a Stones fan-if you can understand why this throwaway song on a second tier album is better than anything released in the last forty years you truly understand The Rolling Stones.

Oh, there’s so many! For me, it’s helpful to look back to their earliest years, when he really was more of a ‘lead-guitarist’

Amongst my favourites:

Bye Bye Johnny
Route 66
Little By Little
Down the Road Apiece
She Said Yeah

The one with that feedback effect in "Stoned" has been always my favourite ones. It probably is his first released solo as well. A great start. A young and eager Keith.

But the very favourite is the mighty "Sympathy" one - one of the most striking solos ever released by anyone ever. No bullshitting, pure genius.

I don´t know. Haven´t really thought about it. Studio - he´s there, doing a great job, but nothing that blows me away. Keith comes alive on stage. 1981 to 1990 is my thing, if we are talking solos. But sure, Where the boys go, and SFTD ain´t tooo shabby...smiling smileycool smiley
