Drink in your summer, gather your corn
The dreams of the nighttime will vanish by dawn
And time waits for no one, and it won't wait for me
And time waits for no one, and it won't wait for me
No, no, no, not for me, no, not for me

I feel so humble with you tonight
Just sitting in front of the fire
See your face dancin in the flames
Feel your mouth kissing me again
What a beautiful buzzz

These may not be the most eloquently written lyrics, but IMHO it's just perfection. It evokes the most wonderful feelings of love, bliss, and passion.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

Harry Chapin - Cats in the Cradle - 1974

My son turned ten just the other day
He said, thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw, I said-a, not today
I got a lot to do, he said, that's okay
And he, he walked away, but his smile never dimmed
It said, I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him

I heard the sound of a thunder, it roared out a warnin’
Heard the roar of a wave that could drown the whole world
Heard one hundred drummers whose hands were a-blazin’
Heard ten thousand whisperin’ and nobody listenin’
Heard one person starve, I heard many people laughin’
Heard the song of a poet who died in the gutter
Heard the sound of a clown who cried in the alley

You better come on in my kitchen
Well, it's goin' to be rainin' outdoors
Ah, the woman I love, took from my best friend
Some joker got lucky, stole her back again
You better come on in my kitchen
It's goin' to be rainin' outdoors

Oh, she's gone, I know she won't come back
I've taken the last nickel out of her nation sack
You better come on in my kitchen
It's goin' to be rainin' outdoors
Oh, can't you hear that wind howl?
Oh, can't you hear that wind would howl?
You better come on in my kitchen
Well, it's goin' to be rainin' outdoors

Gimme some Jimi:

After all the jacks are in their boxes
And the clowns have all gone to bed

You can hear happiness staggering on down the street
Footprints dressed in red

And the wind whispers, "Mary"

A broom is drearily sweeping

Up the broken pieces of yesterday's life
Somewhere, a queen is weeping
Somewhere, a king has no wife

And the wind, it cries, "Mary"

The traffic lights, they turn blue tomorrow

And shine their emptiness down on my bed
The tiny island sags downstream
'Cause the life that lived is dead

And the wind screams, "Mary"

Will the wind ever remember
The names it has blown in the past?

And with this crutch, its old age and its wisdom
It whispers, "No, this will be the last"

And the wind cries, "Mary"

I was born in a crossfire hurricane
And I howled at my ma in the driving rain

I was raised by a toothless, bearded hag
I was schooled with a strap right across my back

I was drowned, I was washed up and left for dead
I fell down to my feet and I saw they bled
Yeah, yeah, I frowned at the crumbs of a crust of bread
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I was crowned with a spike right through my head

But it's all right now
In fact it's a gas
But it's all right
I'm Jumping Jack Flash, it's a gas, gas, gas

Better find, uh, another place"

Hey Elmo, I was going to quote No Surrender, but the first verse:

Well we busted out of class, had to get away from those fools. We learned more from a three minute record, baby, than we ever learned in school.

One of my favourite Springsteen lyrics! Hopefully I can get tix for Vancouver, will definitely film this opening song!

Don McLean - Vincent - 1971

For they could not love you
But still your love was true
And when no hope was left inside
On that starry, starry night
You took your life as lovers often do
But I could have told you, Vincent
This world was never meant for one
As beautiful as you

Damn, that's another one I was going to quote, same as Elmo's No Surrender.

Carrying on the verse:

Roy Orbison's singing for the lonely, hey that's me and I want you only. Don't turn me home again, I just can't face myself alone again.

Spring only sighed
Summer had to be satisfied
Fall is a feeling
That I just can't lose
I'd like to stay
Maybe watch a winter day
Turn the green water
To white and blue
Flyin' shoes
Flyin' shoes
'Til I'll be tying on
My flyin' shoes

Townes Van Zandt/Flyin' Shoes

Sounds real pretty until you realize he's questioning if he'll make it through winter...
