Did you know that The Rolling Stones owned the world's first independent recording studio on wheels? The Rolling Stones Mobile Studio, built into the back of a truck, not only produced some of the band's biggest albums but was also used to record some of the most iconic albums of the 1970s by other legendary bands such as Fleetwood Mac, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath.

Pretty innovative and revolutionary at the time. Nice to learn more of its history and contributions to the industry. Thanks for sharing the link, gagiwh!

We ended up at the Grand Hotel
It was empty, cold and bare
The Rolling truck Stones thing just outside
Huh, making our music there now

Remote recording began in the 1920's, with Wally Heider running a professional remote recording facility in the US from the late 1950's on. The Stones used this truck for recordings of the 1969 tour that resulted in Ya Ya's. That's likely where Stu got the idea from to build the Stones own Mobile truck.

The truck ended up being looked after in Canada as far as I can recall. The exterior was renovated, but (as far as I know) the recording gear was stripped out.

Doesn't look like it, why don't you watch the video ? ;-)

As a side note, not shown in the video, the MAILBOX where enterprising Dutch fans apparently stuck a microphone when it was being used outside De Doelen in Rotterdam in early 1975 and that gave us the 4x90' cassettes of various rehearsals and listening sessions. Without them we would still not (partially) know about "English Rose", THE unreleased song I'd like to hear one day ;-)
