Good vocal nonetheless!
No idea when recorded...but no later than late 80's.
Tricky one...that might not be Hopkins on piano.
I would expect more typical Hopkins flair on the track than we get here...hmmm...who effing knows!
Haha...the great mystery that keeps this board alive.
Good info also Mathijs.

Listening again, it more sounds like somebody is trying real hard to play the exact same part as Hopkins, like Chuck Leavell plays Angie nowadays. Problem is that if it is Leavell he would have been given credit.

Mathijs

Listening again myself I reckon it is Chuck.
Why would he need to be given credit?

Then again, most of the performing credits on the GHS reissue were wrong smiling smiley

Don't worry too much, I've never understood why you need to write your name twice, on the top and on the bottom. Are you afraid to be forgotten?

You are pissing on rule number one, you must always bring proof for your news.
Somehow you've gotten away with it for much too long.

Thank God we can rely on RSTG.

You misspelled your name, Dick!

Another possibily is Mick secretly hired Matt or Chuck in the late 80's (87 or 88 before the great reconciliation with Keef?) to record a bunch of "vocals + piano" Stones tracks?
Was a promo EP or a TV special planned then?

And "100 Years Ago" was considered so good it was recycled on the "Goat" reissue with bogus credits?
(just guessing of course...)

Or Mick has practised to better (perfecting) his piano playing .... just a guess.

As I said earlier in my post, it sounds a little bit like his playing on Memory Motel.Maybe Matt Clifford helped out on it

I don't have to bring proof to YOU, right?

And maybe since I 'gotten away with it for so long' there are more people with the 'proof'.

Or is it just a big conspiracy?

I wouldn't take this all too serious, Mathijs. In Stones fandom you'll always find a certain "Kindergarten element". Some people should simply grow up, but that should not be your problem.

I'll vote:

A. Mathijs isn't always correct, but he's always interesting. Even when he kicks me in the shin for not agreeing with him.

B. Proof of opinion is foolish. Proof of belief is demonstrably impossible. Proof of inside sources automatically invalidates them.

As always with gossip/speculation/opinion, it pays to keep an open mind. Your life is richer if you surround yourself with knowledgeable people and remember that the people who rub you the wrong way often still have useful information to impart. Very few things in life are mutually exclusive.

yeah mathijs is great!

but on another note at least this little bit of internal strife is keeping this thread and subject visible on the first page

maybe the ones who have the recordings will take notice and realize that's there's still a considerable amount of interest in these outtakes and try to get them to us in some way?

or at least i can dreamsmiling smiley

They definitely know there's a HUGE interest! But I'm sure they fear being blackballed, if they are the ones to out them, they may be out of the loop for any future finds.

Well it didn't prevent the release of the first volume ! The "Stones camp" obviously has the means to track down the source/bootlegger so maybe some "negotiation" took place ;-)

Over the years, I've had the good fortune to chat with several Stones insiders on social media. Usually, we had mutual acquaintances of a nature that gave us a shared intersection outside the Stones and established me as somewhat legit in the individual's eyes. Most of what was discussed hardly surprised me, but I would never discuss it online out of respect.

I was curious about a couple things that one insider was privy to and eventually asked about it. I was met with a safe and pat answer. I challenged the answer and was told condescendingly that I was welcome to believe what I liked if it made me happy. Flash forward a couple years and the individual brought the same incidents up and told the full story: it was what I suspected and far more. I was a bit stunned.

With the passage of time and seeming no bearing on current events, I shared the information with friends. I found it fascinating as history and felt safe in my little bubble of shared Stones fanatics. Flash forward some more time when IORR starts becoming fodder for gossip on clickbait websites and the individual does a wide ranging interview completely contradicting what I was told. The safe story related in the interview seemed far-fetched to me, but everyone accepted it. The more controversial story I was told still seems far more plausible, but was either forgotten or seen as harmful gossip. No one ever called me on it because, with few exceptions, IORRians are well-mannered people.

It made me stop and realize that in sharing a couple stories, I had put the individual in a bad spot. The interview was damage control. What was fascinating to me had been embarrassing for the individual or worse, hurtful.

That's why you don't share proof. Believe someone or not. That's up to you. If you believe them and your opinion changes later, there's no loss. Share too much and you do damage to someone every time. You can guarantee it. There are reasons for secrets whether it's old memories, impressions of events, or unreleased recordings. Unless it reaches the masses, it's meant to stay underground. Push too hard and you pay a price.
