Yet again.

I know that when I think "rock and roll" the first names that come to mind are Willie Nelson and Missy Elliott. (Nothing against the great Willie, but . . .)

Warren Zevon is way overdue. & I think Soundgarden deserve a nod as does Joy Division/New Order. Although I'm not a fan, I can see Iron Maiden. Maybe the White Stripes. RATM has been influential but they've only managed to put out 2 real albums. Kate Bush has been influential, too. Sheryl Crow will probably get in.

I certainly wouldn't choose them over Chubby Checker, Freddy Cannon and Chris Montez (3 artists that are both deserving and still around).

The nominees get worse and worse with each year. The obvious choices:

- Iron Maiden
- Willie Nelson (not Rock and Roll but whatever)
- Rage Against the Machine
- Soundgarden
- The White Stripes
- Warren Zevon

Insane the ones mentioned above aren't in, or Harry Nilsson.

I'd put The Shadows, Status Quo and Slade before any of those... but that's the big problem with the R&RHoF, acts are judged purely on US success and not the rest of the world.

This IS a great list, as are the subsequent additions. To the list I would add Procol Harum and Ten Years After. I know that not everyone is a fan of Alvin Lee and TYA, but, set against the groups already inducted, their Woodstock performance alone should be enough.

Boundaries have been iffy since the Million Dollar Quartet: Johnny Cash, Elvis, Jerry Lee, and Carl Perkins.

I'm good with Willie getting in this time.

True. Alarm bells ran at the very first induction in 1986, when Bill Haley was overlooked in favour of James Brown.

Convinced the R&R HoF only exists today so we can continue to see the hilarious reactions from the silver haired folk

From the young folks too. There are people of all generations who know the difference between Rock 'n' Roll and (C)rap!

If we were to go purely on influence, my votes would be for:

Willie Nelson
Kate Bush
Warren Zevon
The White Stripes
Iron Maiden
Missy Elliott
Rage Against the Machine

Soundgarden and Sheryl Crow might both deserve it, and will probably get in eventually, but I don't see their influence on others as much.

The HOF should officially change its name to the music HOF, then all of this griping would stop. It is silly to have rap and country artists in a RNR HOF, but if one looks at a broader Umbrella, then it would make sense. That's just my 2 cents.

I would, too. The Shadows’ instrumentals were immensely popular; groundbreaking, in fact. Hank Marvin was a huge influence on everyone from Jeff Beck, to Mark Knopfler. Status Quo are a (British) national institution, and were, musically-speaking, rather credible before the 1980’s. Everyone should love Slade. As you’ve correctly pointed-out, though: it’s a U.S. centric organisation, and they only non-American acts that stand a chance are those that have, or had, vast commercial success stateside.

Where is Twisted Sister? lol. I know Dee Snider says they don't belong but at least they are R&R. Saw them every Thursday at a club in my hometown in '79 and '80 and compared to some of the non R&R chaff they are worthy.

How many more years before Ariana Grande gets in?!

I hate the way they are overlooking some very obvious contenders.

I complain every year but my pet peeve is the complete abandonment of the hugely successful mid 60's groups like Hermans Hermits, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Monkees, Gerry and the Pacemakers. Ugh. These groups brought rock and roll to television and that seems to be completely ignored. Just wrong in my opinion.

Warren Zevon's finally getting nominated means a lot to his family.
