I like the interplay of Mick and Buddy on "Pretty Woman" on the Mayall 70th bday dvd. Nice slow grooves from Mick on "Blues for the Lost Days".

BS. But he lacks a reggae band.

Hei, I was trying to be ironic!
I am a Mick Taylor fan, and i favor the Taylor era. Though I love the band as a whole. I think the reason why the golden era was "the best" is because Jagger and Richards wrote their best songs then. I also like Woods contribution. I have all the Faces records and don't see a reason for compareing Wood with Taylor. They are two different guitar styles and i like bothsmiling smiley

Hey OpenG, did you ever look at my response to your "Taylor On Slide Midnight Rambler 1973 Tour" thread?

Maybe, but he wouldn't be the leader of such a band (except because he is a star).
One thing for sure: the Rolling Stones aren't that band. Their version of Bob Marley & Peter Tosh's "Get up, stand up" is probably their worst cover version ever. I think the reason they are playing the song in the USA is more a political statement than a musical goody. If they were the Stones of old they would play "Sweet Neo Con".

I like Keith's work with Peter Tosh, Black Uhuru, Max Romeo... but these guys are big stuff without Keith as well. Even Keith's reggae solo stuff isn't that bad. But with the Stones it mostly ends up in crudeness ("Cherry oh baby", "Feel on baby", "Too rude", "You don't have to mean it"). No wonder Mick doesn't want to sing that shiet anymore.

Mick Taylor was brilliant and the best Stones could have after Brian. Truly great. Ronnie isnt even near but he sure had his moments.

Evil tounges sometimes call Charlie "led foot".
But I think occasionally he can swing (at least almost)
in a backbeat from 1979 and on.
First real backbeat I can accept though is on YDHTMI.
And Mick can sing some good reggae song lines at times too.
To a certain degree I can admit Get Up... aint so good. Sofar.
Maybe better to pick another reggae cover; and sing together M/K.
I´d suggest Don´t Look Back as a first choice as their reggae number.
And Soul Almighty or Satan Army band as the nexts.

Oh if they would only listen to you Baboon!!! There is an outlet for these guys, they have no intrest in post Taylor stones but insist on spreading the boring Boring same exact post about Souring solo's or Vibratto on this greet site just when most stones fans in Europe are excited about next years tour, lets call them what they really are and that is Troll's

"Don't look back" was originally sung by the Temptations in 1965 (US R&B #15). They weren't exactly reggae.

´avent ´eard it. It sure is reggae w/ Tosh & Jagger.

Listen to "Don't look back" and then to the rest of the accompanying album BUSH DOCTOR. You'll see "Don't look back" is clearly the song with the least reggae feel on that album. Though I like the version anyway, and the video is great. Peter Tosh is one cool mofo anyway.

So is Jagger in that video. Havent really got the crush on Tosh yet.
He just manage to write 1-2-3 good songs on each albums.
Jagger´s very English in his approach in that video & recording:
but I´d say its much reggae. Maybe you talk more on feeling
& I More on rhythm, for me de riddem constitutes reggae as a
musical form.

Don't look back" was originally sung by the Temptations in 1965

Rightly so but American vocal groups such as Temptations...Garnet Mimms & the Enchanters and especially Curtis Mayfield/Impressions...were all major influences on early Rocksteady - Reggae.

Dont Look Back was first recorded in Jamaica by Rocksteady duo Keith & Tex in 1968.

It's the Temptations "Don't look back" (1965) here: [s7.yousendit.com]

It's Peter Tosh's "Bush doctor" (1978) here: [s7.yousendit.com]

"Bush doctor" includes Keith Richards playing guitar.

Well, Rockman... At first I got a little suspicious.
Like "What the f.. " Why did he send this cross over the globe...
Then came the hops taste, soft, 'round'(and round) yet
personal, colourful... Goddamit... I saw the light!
You dont wanna brush your teeth afterwards (who wants anyway, anytime?)...
Very good, indeed... Two Melbourne a month... ? smiling smiley
I still work on my return sending (been away for some days,
just come back today)...
(drank a wonderful Shepheard´s neame Early Bird yesterday
& found another fine brand I´ll tell mroe about in some beer thread)

Can you tell me a little something about the brewery,
any link... ?

Get over it, Brian was fired and died, Taylor quit, and now we have Ron WOOD. Like or dont, but he is what kept the Stones together over all these long years, and me personally, I LOVE RONNIE! Not that I didn't LOVE BRIAN and Taylor, I DO! But give a rest will ya....Taylor quit, and thats IT, MOFO!

Taylor's smooth solos are apparent on "Get Yer Ya' Ya's Out". Listen to SFTD and SCB for example. That was 1969 and he ripped.

stray cat blues is one of the greatest unknown solos in rock history.taylor's
bluesy lean guitar lines, he ripps into the song and really captures jagger's
lyrical style.

he ripped on all the tours, and his tone was more distorted for the 73 tour, which
makes that tour my favorite.listen to him at a young age of 19 at hyde park on
Im Free - his guitar lines are so melodic and he glistens and soars through open
space like David Gilmour.

same thing with LIV on ya ya's or any version he makes his slide sound like
a train whiste - as jagger sings went down th the station

on winter - jagger's vocal style and singing really sets up Taylor for his
wonderful melodic wonderment

Back to Don´t Look Back.
I was far out yesterday: of course this is an uptempo song,
maybe - in a wider definition - in reggae genre:
but, as Rockman som brightly informs, basically a ska (more modern term)
or rocksteady - reggae.
That´s all for now.
Still a hell of a good song!!!!!
