Come on now from what I read here the only really Taylor solo that sreams over
Jagger's vocals is on SFM when Taylor goes wild at the end of the song and takes
the band for a ride.Yeah Keith had to always keep up with him but most of Taylor's piercing torching solos came off the chorus where Jagger was not singing.So how does Taylor's lead guitar effect Jaggers vocals.I would say the
opposite,that Taylor helped Jagger sing more of the melody,at best Jagger sings
around the notes and with Taylor aboard he was more aware of the melody.Even Jagger has said that in interviews.Taylor played on 7 records not 4 and his contributions are timeless.Taylor's guitar was expressive and it helped Jagger
express vocally in the studio and live the melody he played.So time waits for
no one is a easy scale to play up and down the fretboard Taylor came up with
that wonderful melody.Are you telling me Keith's 3 note riffs are hard to play,
no way,but give taylor and keith credit for coming up with the music ideas.

Jagger was always good friends with Mick Taylor.

Taylor sure left because of the tension between him and Keith. Keith is (or was) a wonderful rhythm player those days but solowise he is clearly limited. So I think there were four reasons for the tension between him and Mick Taylor:
1. Keith sees the Rolling Stones as a rhythm based group (rolling not soloing) while Mick Taylor tried to play solos everywhere
2. Keith (and Mick Jagger) didn't want to invlove Mick Taylor in the songwriting priocess - or if they did they sure didn't want to share the royalties
3. Keith was also somehow jealous of Mick Taylor's ability to play wonderful solos
4. personal problems between the two - both had heavy drug problems, Keith was more introvert those days while Mick Taylor played around with everyone from Billy Preston to Herbie Mann. Besides it is known that Keith has a mean character.

By the way: I think "Time waits for no one" is crap, however no Stones song.

Without being a Mick Taylor-"fan" I advise you two guys to destroy all your copies of music by the Rolling Stones recorded between May 1969 and December 1974 if Mick Taylor is playing on it - may it be studio or live, official or non-official.

No need for Mick Taylor to come back. But no need to badmouth a deserving ex-Rolling Stone as well. He did his job when he was a member from 1969 to 1974 and he did it well.

Still I think "Time waits for no one" is utter Bullshit. I'm happy the Stones didn't follow this path.

At least the two guys could ask for cleansed version of these recordings - the Rolling Stones office would just have to erase the guitar tracks recorded by Taylor. Even I would be interested in these expurgated versions, hehe.

Agreed that if you like the "speed" version of the Stones you won't find a better expression of it than their work with Mick Taylor....

IMO, when Keith and Ronnie are at their best their weaving is at least as interesting as Keith riffing on top of Taylor's lead...

Witness all those awesome shows during the 40 Licks tour... no 2 guitarists have ever sounded better as a duo than Keith & Ronnie on that tour.

It´s so sad to realize that most of you don´t like the rolling stones at their best. Ok, fine with me. I can buy all the concerts beteween 69-73 - whereas you can buy the rest...I loved the pressconf. 05, europe. Keith is pretty OK!!! There´s laughter and joy!!!

An alternative view is that given Mick's speed, Keith was not able to develop his rhythms and riffs to the extent he does with Ronnie.

While the MT days were certainly "the Stones at their fastest", I don't think for a second that they were "Keith at his best"...

And regardless of what a phenomenal guitarist Mick Taylor is, if you allow Keith to develop his licks, there's no more interesting guitarist on the planet... and Keith's best playing has been AFTER MT left, IMO.

oh and ron wood allowed keith to develop the same licks he has been playing for the last 40 years - come on now keith is my all time fav all around player but
he knows his limiations and has stayed there the last 40 years. In the penatonic
box and sometimes strayed outside the box - to give us his seductive angular

This seems a gross statement to me... however I think Keith's best playing has not been after Mick Taylor but after the Toronto drug bust 1977. He reached his peak around 1992 with his solo album MAIN OFFENDER but hasn't lived up to his reputation since.

"You don't have to mean it", "Losing my touch" and "Infamy" are utter BS, sorry. The main riff of "Rough justice" was written by Ronnie (probably the reason why they didn't kick him out of the band). Keith seems to have entirely lost his former interest in rock'n'roll. Instead he has dived deeper into blues (that's ok), country (it's enough now) and reggae (which he still only imitates).
