KR fuzz tone

Hi everyone

A question for the guitar-geeks out there...
Keith obviously uses a fuzz tone on Satisfaction, and I presume Have You Seen Your Mother Baby? as well. I think he uses on on Under My Thumb. Are there any other songs from 65/66 that he uses one on?

thanks
syrel

Is this "fuzz tone", or some other effect? Whatever, another fave!

She Said Yeah is a good example.

Oh yes! thumbs up

Of course, by 1966 pretty much everyone was using fuzz to beef-up their sound.

For a short while during 1966 - 1967 Keith sometimes used a small Futurama Corvette amplifier. This might be the source for some of the more rockier, fuller fuzzy, but not so Maestro FZ-1 buzzy, guitar tones on Between The Buttons recordings.

You can see it in some Gered Mankowitz and Michael Cooper photos in Olympic Studios from November 1966. Keith even used it for the live performance of She Smiled Sweetly on The Eamonn Andrews Show in February 1967.

I'm surprised an audio of this has never turned up anywhere (someone please prove me wrong!).

Couldn't it simply be an overdriven amp on some of those songs?

Possibly on 'Miss Amanda Jones', but I'm no expert on that sort of thing.

In 66 and 67 they were mucking about with some new VOX hybrid and sold state amps with built in distortion and fuzz effects.

'Orrible things ...but they still managed to make great rcords in spite of them! grinning smiley

I won't argue yer maj ...each to their own grinning smiley

[In actual fact, it has never ceased to amaze me how Keith often got such great recorded sounds from kit which in most hands would have sounded like a bag of spanners ! ]

If you have played through them, fair enough, but if not, I wouldn't judge them just because they are hybrid or fully solid state. thumbs up

The Vox Conqueror, Defiant and Supreme in particular are great, versatile amps. They are nothing like later, cheaper solid state amps.

A Les Paul Custom through a Vox Supreme is a wonderous thing. grinning smiley

I have been lucky enough to play through those amps ...but they aren't my bag.. or I just haven't got the ears to dial them in and make them work.

I'm a bit boring when it comes to guitar sounds . Give me Tweed every time grinning smiley

[..and yes, I know...some folks can make even Vintage Tweed sound 'orrible winking smiley]

Fully agree, they are fabulous amps! And important these days, excellent pedal platforms!
