The Rolling Stones Hollywood Bowl, July 25, 1966

And a month later . . .

The Beatles, Dodger Stadium. August 28, 1966

Thinking back, what an incredible way to begin my fantastic concert journey!

Probably inconceivable at the time it would be the last Beatles tour.

Brian only played 2 more shows in the US, San Fran and Honolulu. Also, Ronettes opened for the Beatles on this tour, although Ronnie didn't tour because Spector was jealous of her hanging out with them! Her cousin filled in, not sure what ever happened to her. I believe this would be the Ronettes final tour. Both of these would have probably being inconceivable at the time, too!

wow, so true. I think Dylan had his motorcycle accident around then too, so no tours for the Big 3 in North America until 1969, which probably seemed an eternity (and was for the Beatles) but is pretty standard nowadays.

Co-incidentally, 1969 was also the year Elvis Presley returned to the concert stage (there was a similar coincidence 20 years later, when in 1989 The Rolling Stones, The Who and Paul McCartney all resumed touring).

I saw the James Gang in 1968 at the Ohio State Fair, my Dad took the family to the fair and there they were, playing on a stage set up outdoors.

The first concert I bought tickets for was Deep Purple at Hara Arena, Dayton, Ohio, fall of 1972.
The "fake" Fleetwood Mac, on tour at the time, was the warm-up act.

In the Spring of 1970, I begged my mom to buy me a ticket for Jimi Hendrix who was scheduled to play the Cincinnati Gardens in May.
She said absolutely not, and Jimi ended up cancelling the show anyway.

I don't remember anything from the first shows I attended besides that I went... stone cold sober as well. And then repeated video viewings have drowned out my real memories. Through the years, my favourites would be AC/DC, consistently delivering top rocking shows. Uriah Heep was my first concert, mainly because they were the first big name playing in my city at the time I started going out.

Was Taylor audible in the audience ? Seemingly he played very loud on stage.

David Bowie. I was 16, I think. Was hoping to see him again, once he started releasing records again (Next Day, BlackStar), but sadly it wasn't meant to be. Just glad I got to see him once and that it was a special and memorable occasion.

April 3, 1970 Steppenwolf at the old Civic Center in Philadelphia. I was 13 and my mother went with me. She embarrassed me by making me put cotton in my ears when we got to our seats. There were a lot of opening acts. The only one I remember was Steam.

My second concert wasn’t until July 1972 at the Spectrum in Philly. The Rolling Stones!!! Stevie Wonder was the opening act.

Could be Kid Creole and the Coconuts but I really can't remember!

The oldest ticket I have is for Prince in 1987. Sign of the times tour, to this day one of the best shows I've ever seen. But I'm quite sure it was not the first.

Mine was The Stones. Voodoo Lounge 1995 at Wembley Stadium. My Dad worked for an insurance company who got a job-lot of tickets for employees. Someone dropped out and my Dad asked me if I wanted to go. To be honest, I wasn't overly bothered as I had probably only heard Satisfaction and Jumping Jack Flash at the time, and being 13, I was into far cooler music (haha). I said yes though, coz I thought going to a concert with my Dad and his friends would be fun.
Needless to say, I was blown away - I remember halfway through the gig just thinking how this was the coolest thing I had ever seen. The next day after school I got on my bike and cycled down to Woolworths and bought the single of I Go Wild (the one with the tour postcards) and that turned out to be the very first item in my now colossal and ever-growing Stones collection.
Thanks Dad.
