I just thought it deserved a thread!

Another two: [iorr.org] , [iorr.org] .

I didn’t notice that thread, Irix. Perhaps BV could merge the two? There’s some unwanted negativity in that thread, though. This is a positive day for our glorious nation.

Watching the carriage ride from the Palace to the Abbey. Thinking about Diana. Who knows, if Charles had been a better husband, she might be riding in that carriage right now, instead of spending her 9,374th day alone in the cold, cold ground.

Who knows indeed, tatters. An awful affair and her death was an immeasurable tragedy. However…

Let’s have some patriotism today. At least from those amongst us who are proudly British.

He wouldn’t lower himself. How lowbrow!

Anyway, let’s keep this thread on track and respectful.

Lots of pomp and circumstance. It is nice to see Westminster Abbey all resplendent and everyone dressed to the nines, even if it does all feel a little silly.

Doesn't matter .

Silliness and eccentricity are probably two of our greatest qualities as a nation grinning smiley

And what a magnificent job they did, controlling those horses, considering!

I absolutely agree! However, I feel the pageantry and sheer magnificence of the whole spectacle in anything other than silly. Fabulous stuff!

TV free zone in my place today ...until 10.30 for Match of the day.....Rock on Bob Dylan.

Same. Blanking the event as I do nearly every Royal occasion. Other civilised and well developed countries manage fine without keeping a family of human pets in lifelong extreme privilege. I wish we could too.

For everyone else who enjoys, please go ahead and enjoy it. Plenty do.

It’s the opposite for me. I refuse to watch anything with Gary Lineker!

Well, that we do actually have in common, I watch the football and then turn the sound down between matches. Nothing more boring than listening to people talking about football (well, maybe the the monarchy...........

Some rather nice new music specially written for the service in the Abbey, but all on the classical side so not designed to appeal to Stones fans.

with all due respect but the coronation of a king is political per se

The posts about nations not having a royal family puzzles me. Most nations have several royal families. I can think of at least five in the USA.With an official royal family it is much neater. And you get neat celebrations. Some countries even import royals when they become independent to start the tradition. But what I really wanted to ask is where is the Prince Harry thread?
