I bought my first Stones record in 1964 and nothing these days, or for many years, has excited me as much as their early stuff. The last record I bought was Steel Wheels and the last concert I saw was in 1981. That’s how long I’ve been disillusioned with the band. The reason you get no new product is that you, the fans for whom the band can do no wrong, are content with endless concert recordings and outtakes which the band sneaks out of the back door and a tour now and then to hear the same old. Your “collections” consist of the free downloads you get here with little or no regard for the band’s origins.
Sadly, I think that the band no longer has the ability to excite me because the control of the material I want to hear is in the hands of private collectors who, quite rightly, keep these things out of the public domain so that it isn’t bootlegged and overnight in the hands of everyone. I’m talking about the missing Radio 1 broadcasts, the Gomelsky tapes, Pretty Thing etc. And where is the demo tape that Elmo Lewis and Paul Jones (Pond) made, still with a member of Alexis Mourner’s family maybe. This is what all Stones fans ought to be interested in but too many fans appear to be more easily pleased

I just hope for a more varied sound on the new album. For me (altough the albums are good) very much of the SW and forward material have been a bit monotone when it comes to text, guitars and drums.

Let Keith sing song numer five and eleven. So much they can do. Lots. Play one song they have never played before - every show. Wish they would give me a call. I have ideas!

Good point, although in fairness they tried to freshen things up significantly, or at least Mick did, on Bridges to Babylon. An album incidentally I like very much. But reaction was mixed to put it mildly. The band are in a difficult situation. If they remain true to their roots they will be criticised for being locked in a time warp. Try to change things and they will be told 'This is not The Stones...'
The inescapable fact overall is that it is the big hits that resonate most with the fans And whether I, and others like me, get bored with this or not - and I certainly do - the bottom line is that the band will keep drifting back there, both in performance, and in style, as much as possible.
Talking of which. Hot Rocks has once again re-entered the Billboard 200 this week. At No.191, and for its 399th week. By a distance their biggest selling album ever in the US, even though it never reached No.1 on the charts...

They won't be for much longer. So, live in the now, not what happened 30 years ago or during the FIFTY tour with Mick Taylor.
Could Taylor do any worse?
