The Pointer Sisters were a very talented act, floating around for most of the '70's after their debut. "Yes, We Can Can" actually got a bit of airplay on FM Rock Radio in L.A. in '73. Their appearance (with Richard Pryor) is a highlight of the 1977 film Car Wash. In the early '80's their career took off with a string of high-profile hits, including this one which seems to be forgotten:

I saw them once--in a first row seat--back in '81, when they opened for Teddy Pendergrass. They put on a terrific show.

Rest In Peace, Anita.

(The Pointer Sisters also sang backup vocals on Bill's Monkey Grip album.)

Sad news .... which is the opposite of the Pointer Sisters' 1982 hit:

Another Pointer Sisters hit in 1984:

Rest in peace, Anita Pointer - and thank you for the music.

No-one's mentioned their surprisingly solid version of 'Happy':

R.I.P. Anita!

A personal favorite:

Their version of Bruce's "Fire" wasn't bad either.

A favorite from 1972 - in fact I just posted it in the "What are you listening too this very second" thread about a month or so ago.
Time to listen to it again right now this very second:

As the description under video says:

"While this early side wasn't a hit per se, it's THE ONE as far as collectors, aficionado's and those who just wanna GET DOWN to some fine soulful sounds.
Here we find the Oakland group teamed up with NOLA's Wardell Quezergue for this brilliant meeting of west coast and New Orleans soul.
Special mention must be made of those heavenly sisterly harmonies and bass playing that deserves an award".

They also sing on one of Bill Wymans 1970salbums, I think it was Stone Alone

They worked with Bill and Ronnie solo.

Their version of "Happy" has Waddy on slide and rhythm guitar and Nicky on piano. Very nice version, indeed.

I included The Pointer Sisters' great version in my 'Undercover' book, and wrote to their management to see if I could get an interview or some quotes from any members: their manager wrote back, telling me that they had no specific memory of the recording.

I believe that. There's a reason they were relatively close to Ronnie 1980/1981. Their "Happy" sounds like it followed Linda Ronstadt's "Tumbling Dice" (also from musical director Waddy) as a blueprint.

Such talented sisters, RIP Anita, Bonnie and June. Now Ruth is the only remaining one.
