The Pointer Sisters were a very talented act, floating around for most of the '70's after their debut. "Yes, We Can Can" actually got a bit of airplay on FM Rock Radio in L.A. in '73. Their appearance (with Richard Pryor) is a highlight of the 1977 film Car Wash. In the early '80's their career took off with a string of high-profile hits, including this one which seems to be forgotten:

I saw them once--in a first row seat--back in '81, when they opened for Teddy Pendergrass. They put on a terrific show.

I included The Pointer Sisters' great version in my 'Undercover' book, and wrote to their management to see if I could get an interview or some quotes from any members: their manager wrote back, telling me that they had no specific memory of the recording.

I believe that. There's a reason they were relatively close to Ronnie 1980/1981. Their "Happy" sounds like it followed Linda Ronstadt's "Tumbling Dice" (also from musical director Waddy) as a blueprint.

Such talented sisters, RIP Anita, Bonnie and June. Now Ruth is the only remaining one.
