Falsely claimed that condoms caused AIDS.

Reinstalled a priest who had been removed for promoting Holocaust denying views.

Doesn’t seem very praiseworthy. Don’t see why a thread is needed for him on IORR. Nothing Rock & Roll about him.

well, Ratzinger was a great intellectual and a fierce head of the Catholic Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith but as pope he was a misconception. He has never been a charismatic leader not a great and experienced pastor but an outstanding theologist. And the worst thing that can happen to an intellectual is that he reaches a position where noone is allowed to contradict him. (He himself saw that danger. Therefore in the preface to some of his books he made it clear that he didn't write them as a pope but as a theologist).

(I'm not catholic nor do I believe in god etc. But I knew about Ratzinger and his writings long before he became pope).
