I can’t believe this. I saw the Specials supporting the Stones in his home city of Coventry just 4 and a half years ago and they were outstanding with Terry’s voice as good as ever. Rest in peace sir and so glad I got to see you live. I was at that show with my sister and she had a right good dance to all the old hits. Some right good tunes with Rat Race being my personal favourite.

Sad news this - only 63. Excellent at Coventry opening for the stones back in 2018. Rip

Gosh - more sad news today. And yes, the Specials certainly lived up to their name in that Coventry performance.

Caught them twice, one of them being this Coventry gig you mentioned. They were part of the soundtrack of my youth. RIP Terry.

Wow...terribly sad news...one of my favorite bands ever since my rebellious teenage years late '70's/early '80's....
Fortunate to have seen them back in c. 1980 as well as more recently in 2010...

RIP TERRY HALL

I saw and met The Specials in 2009, when the 6-part reunion line-up (no Jerry Dammers) came to a theatre where I worked as a doorman. The band mostly came and left separately, and it was clear that there were still bad feelings amongst some of them, with only Horace Panter & John Bradbury hanging out together. A fine show though, despite the non-inclusion of 'Ghost Town' (Horace complained afterwards that if Terry would cut down on his smoking then he'd be able to sing it every night!). Neville Staple was the friendliest to staff, but Terry Hall did shake my hand as he left, and seemed to appreciate me thanking him. R.I.P.!

It's only when there gone that you appreciate them more.
I haven't seen so much coverage about a member of a band on BBC news channel for a long time.
The Specials, Fun Boy Three were really iconic bands back in the 80's, I guess it was.

Sad to hear. Very large part of my youth in the late 70's and saw them live at least once. I think The Selector as support. At 63 he was younger than me so that certainly strikes home. RIP

Very very sad.

Specials were a brilliant group. One of the best to come out of that late 70s/early 80s period. V v influential.

And then he moved onto Fun Boy Three and Colourfield and....too many too mention over the next several decades.

Far far too young. RIP Terry Hall

PS...have a listen......

Absolutely gutted on hearing about the passing of Terry Hall.

My sister is a big fan of the specials and one of the best days for me was going to see the specials & Stones at Coventry with my sister.

That day couldn’t have been more perfect with the weather the music and of course the Stones back in the midlands for over 30 odd years or so.

I went to see them at the top rank club in Birmingham and that was a mad concert atmosphere wise, I even managed to fix up Simon from this group with a ticket and we are still in touch with each other.thumbs up

I’ve last saw them on their 40th anniversary concert at Coventry cathedral and seen the specials 5 times.

R I P Terry & thanks for the memories and the joy you gave to my sister, I know what she is going through is the same when Charlie passed away.

Evening Mike,

That show in Birmingham back in April 2009 was the first time that I saw The Specials: I was absolutely @#$%& blown away by them and the audience reaction...when the band walked-on and the first chord was struck, it was like a jet engine being lit...and that was from upstairs, hah-hah!

I'm still in your debt for sorting me out with your spare: it was a tough ticket to get at face, such was the justified clamour to get to see these guys again, even without JD. I went on to see a good few more shows util 2012 and they were always 100%, high octane and really connected shows. They meant it and we loved them for it.

Here's a few from other shows. In common with other fans, I welled-up earlier today when I read Horace's account of what Terry had to go through. Still cannot believe it, and I'm so sorry for his family, mates and (ex-) band mates. We love you Terry, Man U. fan and all...

Forgive my indulgence- I wasn't gonna post anything as I felt everyone had said it already and almost, "What's the @#$%& point?", you know...especially after Wilko. Anyway, I'm grateful to that band and also that Terry seemed like a decent guy. Can't ask for too much more...

Cheers,

Simon.

Hi Simon,

Was some concert that was.

I must admit I was choked on reading about his last few days and have just found out a dear friend of mine was rushed to hospital with bleeding on his brain and in a critical condition and just waiting for some news on his condition, fingers crossed.

Makes you appreciate life a bit more, look after your self. KROthumbs up

Such a shame. That’s the music of my youth. Then a day later Duffy from Primal Scream (& Felt & the charlatans).

Yeah, more sad news with Martin passing also.
Primal Scream are unrivalled for me as the best band of my generation. So many styles and every song is meant. That’s Duffy & Throb both gone…
