The Faces (Ronnie Wood) - Love In Vain
Posted by: GivenToFly15 ()

I came across this video from the BBC with Ronnie Wood playing "Love In Vain" in a somewhat Stripped 95 fashion. At least I thought so.

Does anyone know if this stuff was officially released somewhere? The "Five Guys Walk Into A Bar" boxset includes a different version.

LOL was it The Faces in 1971 that gave it away that it was pre-STRIPPED or the fact that they played it in E?

Very funny.

No, I thought the slide part was actually very similar to some of the Stripped licks. Ronnie's style. Nothing more. Keep going.

Obvious why Ronnie was the choice to join the Stones. The same musicality.

Never realized this but Chris Robinson sounds a lot like Rod Stewart.

Ron Wood was already a Rolling Stone while he was in the Faces.

Bye

Just saw Crowes earlier this year. My first impression was that he must have studied Rod's 1970s concert clips. Sings like him, moves on the stage like him and holds the mic stand like him!

It doesn't remind me much of the Stones in this cover, I also struggle to match it to the Stripped version.
Ronnie's style is obviously always the same, but I find them two so different versions... maybe one is electric with only one guitar, while the second is acoustic with two guitars and in my opinion it's a more classic version.
I like both though...

It’s okay, but it isn’t in the same league as Taylor’s versionsThe one from Ladies and Gentleman is extraordinary. But their are tracks like Tumbling Dice where I like Woods playing live better

The Stones versions are way more straight-forward. The Faces bring out the dynamics, and Ronnie's playing is excellent.

Both approaches are great, in their own way.

I listened to both, I think the 5 Guys version is pretty similarly played to this one, imo.

The Ronnie episode on the BBC 4 part documentary was my favourite. The BBC used 3 of our Polaroid images taken by Spanish Tony Sanchez at the Wick 71. The rest are still unseen!
